The Raelian Movement, which teaches that life on Earth was created by aliens, had its fourth-annual "GoTopless Day" protests in several U.S. cities.

GoTopless.org, founded by the movement's spiritual leader, Rael, organized protests Sunday in locations including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. Women participating in the protests were urged to go topless while men were encouraged to cover their chests to illustrate the slogan, "Topless equal rights for all or none."

"It's no more ridiculous than women having to wear tops at all times in this double-standard topless battle that's being waged in public and in the courts," said Nadine Gary, a Raelian priestess and president of GoTopless.org based in Las Vegas.

"After four years, our national protests are starting to bear fruit, for a growing number of women across the country are reaching out to us. They're beginning to feel empowered by our demonstrations and the constitutional message we bring."

Thieves’ net trout catch at fish hatchery

Someone in California has a truck load of stolen merchandise that probably is starting to stink.

State Fish and Game wardens are investigating what they believe to be the first large-scale theft from a state fish hatchery after as many as a thousand trophy-sized trout were taken from a facility near Fresno.

Workers at the San Joaquin State Fish Hatchery found the gate pried open and blood covering the floors. Department spokesman Patrick Foy says the trout were 3 years old and weighed approximately three pounds each.

The trout were part of a program paid for by fishing license fees to stock lakes for fishing enthusiasts.

Wardens are now scouring California fish markets for signs of them. Trout sells for up to $7 a pound.

Guards' Fired Over Genitals Prank

A federal judge says Franklin County officials are not responsible for the actions of two guards who fed a prisoner a bologna sandwich that had been rubbed against another inmate's genitals.

U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost has ruled the county, its commissioners and its late sheriff did not foster a culture of rule-breaking that encouraged the deputies to act out of line.

Court documents say two deputies were handing out bologna sandwiches in 2009 when they made an inmate put his genitals on one while they took a picture with a cell phone. They fed the sandwich to another inmate and showed him the picture.

Both deputies were fired.

One deputy pleaded guilty to health code violations. His attorney called the incident a "prank."

The other deputy wasn't charged.

Mom humiliated son in public by wearing I’m a theft sign

Residents of an Australian city said a mother forced her young son to sit in public wearing Shrek ears and a sign proclaiming him to be "a thief."

Witnesses said the boy, who appeared to be about 10 years old, spent nearly an hour sitting near a Townsville water park wearing the ears and the sign while his family ate lunch nearby,

"Do not trust me. I will steal from you as I am a thief," the boy's sign read.

Diane Mayers, said she was so "horrified" when she saw the boy that she immediately notified the Child Safety Services.

"A lot of people walked past laughing at him, including boys who would have been his age," Mayers said. "At one point, the boy had taken off the Shrek ears. My daughter walked past and heard the mother say, 'Put them back on or I'll smack your head in.'"

Mayers said she feared the long-term effects from the public humiliation would be worse than the potential effects from physical abuse.

Preteen boy named town's drag queen

British boy has been named the top drag queen at his village's annual contest after wearing women's clothes and singing pop hits for the crowd.

12-year-old Redvers Stokes of Sticker, England, beat other local men in the drag contest by doing his "Naughty Nora" persona and singing tunes including “Michael Jackson's "Thriller" for the judges.

The boy said he started wearing his mother's clothes for fun when he was young and he now frequently attends village events in women's clothes and makeup.

I think it's really funny. I've always been open to new things. I might like dressing up in women's clothes but I still like girls. It's just a little hobby of mine," Stokes said.

Organizers of the drag contest said they started the annual event two years ago when they did not find enough girls that were willing to participate in the carnival queen pageant.

The boy's mother, Georgia Stokes, 43, said she "couldn't be more proud" of her son.

"His Naughty Nora routine is very convincing. I've never been concerned. Redvers just loves being the center of attention. He has no plans to make it a career," she said.

Crews clean up soggy toilet-papered river

Idaho State environment officials say crews finished removing massive rolls of unprocessed toilet paper that fell off a truck and were lodged for weeks in the upper Lochsa River.

Earlier attempts to pull out the paper was called off when it began disintegrating, creating an even bigger mess.

Department of Environmental official John Cardwell says teams yanked out the remnants last weekend when lower river flows made the work more manageable.

Crews wrapped the rolls with a reinforced mesh before they were pulled out by a tow truck.

The rolls landed in the water after the truck hauling the load along U.S. Highway 12 slid into the river. The driver was cited for inattentive driving.

Police set-up nets 22 arrests

Police put up a sign in south Gainesville to let drivers know there was a checkpoint ahead, but what was really going on was a ruse.

There was no checkpoint, just several Gainesville Police Department officers watching for drivers who saw the sign and then turned around or who appeared to throw something out of their vehicles. Those vehicles were pulled over.

Police spent nearly eight hours on the detail near the intersection of South Main Street and 16th Avenue.

“This was a ruse detail,” said Lt. David Rowe. “Officers stopped 58 vehicles and most of the 22 arrests were for felony drug charges but there were also a few people arrested on warrants.”

Police said they planned the ruse because of drug and burglary complaints in the area.

Police issued more than 100 citations at checkpoint

The Gainesville Police Department made four DUI arrests and issued more than 100 traffic citations during a roadside safety/DUI checkpoint reported Cpl. Tscharna Senn.

The checkpoint was conducted at 3300 W. University Ave. from 9:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and involved GPD’s traffic safety team and personnel from the Alachua County Sheriff’s office, Florida Highway Patrol, University of Florida Police and the Alachua Police Department.

In addition to the DUI arrests, police made one drug arrest and one warrant arrest. They issued 88 non-moving traffic citations, 17 moving traffic citations and six criminal traffic citations. Police also issued four warnings.

Rossi tells that his weekly sleeping habit became public last month when his 14-year-old grandson wrote a story about him for his school's newspaper.

Rossi says he sleeps in the coffin to honor a deceased friend.

Long ago, the two promised each other that whoever died first would have his casket bought by the other. Rossi's friend bought him a coffin when he mistakenly thought Rossi had died in a 1983 car crash.

When the friend died in 1988, Rossi started sleeping in the coffin to honor his memory.

Man tries to use his feet as brakes

A 24-year-old Detroit-area man who tried using his feet to stop a runaway pickup truck with faulty brakes caused multiple collisions and exhibited "moronic decision making," a Roseville police official said.

After the vehicle's brakes failed on a busy street in Roseville, just north of Detroit, the man continued driving and stuck his feet outside the truck to stop it, Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin said. .

Witnesses said the man reached speeds of about 40 mph and wasn’t able to stop the truck on at least two occasions. The truck eventually struck four vehicles.

He struck two vehicles after being unable to stop at a red light, and continued on. An officer who pulled next to the man's car told him to shift into "park," but that didn't work and he rolled into two other vehicles before the truck stopped.

"He said he was going to fix the brakes when he got home," Berlin said.

While rest rooms are known as places to relieve yourself a 22-year-old man may have pioneered an alternate use. A loss prevention officer at a Wal-Mart Supercenter stated that Taylor Allen Dresia was "eating food" on the bathroom floor. Dresia's apparent picnic in the potty blocked the commode for patrons, and a store manager asked him to leave. "After a few minutes Dresia left and then returned in another entrance yelling that an employee stole something from his backpack while he was in the bathroom."

A deputy told Dresia to leave immediately. Dresia said he wasn't leaving and that he wanted to write something down. "Deputy advised Dresia not to play games and leave the store now," "Dresia again refused."

Dresia was arrested by an Indian River County Sheriff's deputy, was described as argumentative.

Deputies got Dresia, listed as homeless, out, arresting him on misdemeanor charges of trespassing after warning and resisting an officer without violence.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy spotted the man trespassing at a Destin park,
reports the Northwest Florida Daily News in Fort Walton Beach.

That's when the man, Edmund Berkeley Barksdale, tried to explain his ‘business’ to the deputy.

And the proof was in the pudding: Barksdale then reached into his shorts with his hand. When the 55-year-old man removed his hand, the deputy noted it had fecal matter on it, according to the arrest report.

Man in rehab caught with child porn

Sarasota Police say a nurse caught a 55-year-old bedridden man in a rehabilitation facility with child pornography on his computer.

Detectives arrested Robert Martin, a permanent resident of Harmony Healthcare and Rehab because of a motor vehicle accident, on a possession of child pornography charge this past weekend.

A nurse reportedly saw an image of a naked child on Martin’s computer and called police.

Martin reportedly admitted to downloading images of nude children from the Internet. “I’m the person your mother warned you about,” Martin told detectives.

Police say they found roughly 20,000 child porn images before the computer crashed.

Judge who demands punctuality but often he’s late

A Canadian judge with zero tolerance for lateness in his Toronto-area court has a poor record of returning to the bench on time.

Last month, Justice Howard Chisvin of the Ontario Court in Newmarket threw out 12 criminal cases when a Crown prosecutor was late in returning to court. Among the cases dismissed were people who had pleaded guilty and were awaiting sentencing.

Since that incident, prosecutors and defense attorneys have been lining up outside his courtroom doors before they open.

However, a reporter took a stopwatch to Chisvin's courtroom and discovered the judge has a poor record of punctuality.

The judge was late returning from every break, from a few seconds to as long as 19 minutes, 22 seconds.

After that lengthiest absence, he apologized to everyone who had been on time and cited a number of reasons he was running late.

When three men were found huffing nitrous oxide -- also known as laughing gas -- from balloons in a parking lot, officers were led to a store called Purple Haze, police said.

That's because the huffing trio told investigators that the owner of Purple Haze sold them the painkilling substance and taught them how to sniff it from the balloons, said Sgt. Mike Fowler.

Nitrous oxide has several uses, including to numb pain from dental work, as well as for making whipped cream and in auto racing to speed combustion.

Two undercover Daytona Beach Shores investigators went to Purple Haze and asked to purchase nitrous oxide and the paraphernalia used to inhale it. At that point, the store owner, Yohan Cohen, gave the investigators instructions on how to use the paraphernalia to inhale the gas, Fowler said.

Police recovered $600 worth of nitrous oxide and paraphernalia from the shop, Fowler said.

Cohen and employee Aline Elakayam were arrested and charged with sale of harmful chemicals and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 36-year-old woman lost two fingers and a thumb when she tried to wake up her boyfriend with fireworks.

The woman and her boyfriend told the Gainesville Police Department that they had been drinking before the incident at the Georgetown apartments. The woman said she was holding a fireworks novelty item in her hand when she lit the fuse. She had been planning to toss the device out the front door, thinking it would make enough noise to wake her boyfriend.

Instead, the device exploded in her hand, tearing off her thumb, middle and ring fingers. The blast was so powerful that police said they found one bone remnant embedded in the ceiling.

The woman was taken to Shands at the University of Florida. Her boyfriend told police he did not realize that the couple had any fireworks left over from the Fourth of July. He also said the woman’s actions were out of character.

The animal was filmed flying through the cabin during a Delta Airways flight causing so much distress that the pilot was forced to return to the departure airport in Madison, Wisconsin.

Passenger Mike Schmidt filmed the bat flying over passenger’s heads as they ducked and screamed. The animal was finally contained when it flew into the onboard toilet and a passenger shut the door.

Rescuers end up being rescued

Authorities in Massachusetts said three rescuers searching for a lost woman in the forest ended up lost themselves when they found the woman.

Fall River police said two officers and an environmental officer began searching in the Freetown State Forest when a 25-year-old woman was reported lost in the forest.

The officers found the woman safe, but the group soon discovered they did not know the way out of the woods.

The group was found by a Massachusetts State Police helicopter and they were guided to safety.

Woman awakes to strange teenager in bed

A Des Moines Iowa woman woke up to find a drunken teenager in her bed, police say.

Carla Kraninger, 47, of Des Moines woke up Monday to find someone in her bed with her, and initially thought it was her son. She quickly realized it was not her son and called police. Kraninger and her son tried to wake up the trespasser, but the teen was too intoxicated to respond.

Police said the youth, a Southeast Polk High School student, said he had a beer with some friends earlier and they dropped him off at what he believed to be his mother's house.

The teen, which had a blood-alcohol content of 0.115 at the time, was released to his mother and received a delayed referral on charges of trespass and public intoxication.

Police retrieve ring from stomach

A home repairman working in Cicero, Ill., stole a diamond ring and swallowed it but its owner got it back anyway, law enforcement officials said.

Wilfredo Gonzalez, 30, of Chicago has been charged with felony theft.

Gonzalez was doing remodeling work in the victim's home when he asked to use the bathroom, the Cook County state's attorney's office said.

Prosecutors said when he finished; the homeowner noticed her diamond ring was missing. She told her husband. Gonzalez denied the theft and began struggling with the husband, prosecutors said.

During the struggle, Gonzalez took the ring from his pocket and swallowed it.

Police took Gonzalez to a nearby hospital, where the ring showed up in an X-ray of his stomach.

Cicero police recovered the ring -- but didn't say how they did it.

Who gets the $150,000 payout?

Shortly after a young inmate killed her prison guard husband, Julia Ann Hesson filed for survivor's benefits.

But the Ohio woman didn't expect the response from the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Office, a national program that dispenses death benefits to families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The office denied Hesson's claim, saying another woman deserved the benefit award of more than $150,000.

That woman's name is Julie Keady Hesson. She's 41 and lives in St. Petersburg. She had been married to William Hesson, too. In fact, officials said, the two never divorced.

The Ohio woman, 29, is appealing the board's decision, and the intriguing case is now making its way through civil court in Pinellas County.

Woman let 6-year-old niece drive car

Police say a Pennsylvania woman endangered her 6-year-old niece by having the girl back the woman's car out of a tight parking spot, wrecking two other cars in the process.

Police charged 55-year-old Rebecca Beatty, of Aliquippa. Beatty picked up her niece from a dance program at Ambridge Area High School.

When Beatty found another car parked so close that she couldn't get in her vehicle. Police say that's when she had her niece back the car out.

Police say the child hit a parked car, pushing it over a curb until it hit another car parked on the street.

Arizona man shoots penis

A suburban Phoenix man is recovering after police say he accidentally shot himself in the penis while putting his girlfriend's gun in the waistband of his pants.

Chandler police say 27-year-old Joshua Seto and his fiancee, Cara Christopher, were walking toward a grocery store when the shooting happened last week. The gun fired, striking Seto's penis and continuing through his left thigh.

The 911 operator told Christopher to apply direct pressure to the wound with a dry towel or T-shirt.

Chandler Police Detective Seth Tyler says it's unclear if Seto has been released from the hospital or suffered any permanent damage

In the wake of the shooting, Tyler warned residents to use holsters, not waistbands, if they're going to carry a handgun.

Newlyweds Kong Qingyang and Shen Likun first met when groom Kong was working as a forklift driver and bride Shen was working as a forklift salesperson.

To commemorate their special connection they chose to commandeer a forklift parade in their home town of Xintai, Hebei Province.

Starting at 8am the brightly decorated forklifts motored from the groom's house and then broke with tradition to pick up the bride-to-be.

Naturally it took a while for them to arrive at the church, with a top speed of eight miles per hour limiting progress, but the vows were exchanged just after the couple arrived at 11:30am.

Following her unusual entrance, the blushing bride Shen said: 'I love him (Kong) as a person. No matter what vehicle he picks me up in I would marry him. I will remember this parade forever.'

Eight Philippine police officers have been detained for investigation after a video surfaced showing them humiliating, laughing and taking videos of naked recruits during anti-insurgency training, officials said.

In the latest hazing scandal to hit the country, national police spokesman Agrimero Cruz Jr. said at least three superiors of the eight officers may also be relieved of their posts and investigated over the "barbaric" treatment.

Commission on Human Rights official Byron Bocar said a video sent to the agency showed the officers applying liquid laced with chili pepper on the penises of the trainees, who screamed in pain.

Last year, police officials relieved the entire staff of a Manila police station after a television network broadcast a video showing police torturing a naked detainee, who screamed on the floor as a man pulled a rope tied to his genitals and whipped him.

Man urinates on 46 six-packs of malt liquor

Security guards watching over the liquor department at the Rapid City Wal-Mart have been busy in the last month.

Last week police arrested a Rapid City man for urinating on 48 six-packs of malt liquor, after security caught 27-year-old Matthew Bihn in action. Bihn faces charges of destruction of property and unlawful deposit.

The Authorities reports that all of the contaminated merchandise was destroyed.

Last month, a 57-year-old Rapid City man was busted by security after he opened a can of beer in the store late and drank it. Police say Perry Arpan attempted to put the can back in the case, then set the beer in another aisle and tried to leave the building.

Arpan was arrested for shoplifting.

Woman strips naked during charity event

City officials in Woodward, Oklahoma say they're "offended" that a woman stripped naked during a charity golf event at a city-owned golf course.

The local Elks Lodge hosted the event at Boiling Springs Golf Course as part of its annual rodeo. Event Chairman Neal Day said the woman stripped naked as part of a challenge on a putting green.

Day says the woman was not asked to strip. He said she was a last minute recruit when another volunteer couldn't attend.

City Manager Alan Riffel says he and other city leaders are "offended" and that their anger has been relayed to the Elks and the golf course operator.

Man shaved nude on beach

A Massachusetts man is facing lewd charges after lifeguards say he refuses to stop shaving himself while nude on a beach.

The Eagle Tribune reports that Christopher Axford was arrested Monday on a beach in Salisbury.

According to a police report, the 45-year-old was shaving his armpits while his shorts were pulled down to his shins when police arrived to the scene.

Axford, who police said is homeless, was charged with lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct, public drinking and disorderly conduct and release on personal recognizance. Less than 12 hours after his release, Axford was arrested again on charges he stole a tip jar from a pizzeria. He is being held without bail pending a pretrial hearing

A Park Orchards man who erected a sculpture of a middle finger gesture in his yard and head butted a neighbor has been described by a magistrate as “the neighbor from hell”.

Ringwood Magistrates’ Court has heard David Muscat, 47, felt he was “at war” with the other residents of Frogmore Cres during the long-running feud.

Muscat used a chainsaw to carve the 1.2m wooden sculpture in his front yard after his neighbors complained to Manningham Council that he had cleared trees on his property.

The court last week heard two months later Muscat assaulted his neighbor, John Washbourne, who had asked him to turn off a leaf blower that was sending dust and debris into the caravan Mr. Washbourne was cleaning.

Prosecutor acting Sgt Jo Allen told the court last Monday that police obtained 20 statements from residents who found the sculpture indecent, offensive or inappropriate.

Muscat pleaded guilty to charges relating to the assault, sculpture and failure to turn off his stereo and was convicted and fined $700.

In a separate hearing, Muscat was fined $10,000 by Manningham Council after pleading guilty to removing vegetation and doing earthworks without a permit.

Walking to a friend’s house, Jared Medeiros was set upon by a group of men who left him battered and bruised.

And, adding insult to injury, his phone was then chucked through a manhole cover by the attackers.

But the 21-year-old refused to accept the phone was gone and decided it would be a good idea to stick his head down the drain to retrieve it and call police.

It was not a good idea. He became stuck fast – and the alarm was raised only after he had been in there screaming for about 40 minutes.

‘I was concerned but I was also laughing – it was funny!’ said Brianna Mooney, 16, who called the emergency number

Mr. Medeiros was freed by firefighters, who spent hours trying to pull him out.

He said he had been beaten and kicked by four men.

‘I don’t understand why they would sit and take pictures,’ said Mr. Medeiros. ‘That kind of p****s me off.’

Inmate Larry Stone discovered the phone system was mistakenly depositing money into his account, so he took advantage of it, deputies said.

Larry Stone made a phone call from the Lake County Jail that would typically cost about $20, but it didn't go through.

The charge was supposed to be refunded to his inmate account. But, the 32-year-old checked his balance and discovered his account now had more money than before the call. He made another call and hung up to test his luck. Again, more money magically appeared.

He repeated the exercise 77 times, exploiting the glitch that was mistakenly depositing credit into inmate trust accounts for each incomplete phone call.

After four hours of dialing a combination of local, long-distance and international numbers, Stone had accumulated more than $1,250 — enough money to bond out of jail, according to a Sheriff's Office investigative report.

Stone, who was arrested in April on property-crime charges, walked out of the Tavares facility earlier this month with $50. But he wasn't free for long.

News of the bug floated to other inmates, who began to spend inordinate amounts of time on the phone.

Global Tel*Link — the company that provides the jail's inmate phone system — charges the cost of a call from inmate trust accounts at a rate of $2.58 for local calls, $13.85 for long distance and $23.68 for international calls.

If no one answers or the caller hangs up, the money is returned to the account, officials said.

But in early July something bizarre happened. The system was reimbursing inmates twice for incomplete calls — allowing them to make a profit.

Stone took advantage of the malfunction and dialed a Canadian number dozens of times, investigators said.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. John Herrell said scammers reaped immediate gains from the ruse because inmates can check their balances on the phone.

The jail's technology department noticed a high volume of incomplete calls and alerted detention deputies.

Inmate Kevin Tomlinson was in the middle of paying his $1,400 bond when investigators caught up with him. He had used the malfunctioning system to his advantage, investigators said, accumulating hundreds of dollars in the process.

Tomlinson told detectives he learned about the system's bug on his own and didn't tell anyone else.

Nevertheless, the glitch affected about 256 jail inmate accounts and lasted 24 hours, Herrell said.

Detectives have not calculated the total amount that was inappropriately refunded, he said.

8 DUIs gets man 55 years in prison

A Houston-area man will be 100 years old before he's eligible for parole after his eighth drunken-driving conviction.

A Montgomery County jury convicted 73-year-old Gliddon William Davis of Conroe and then sentenced him to 55 years in prison over the 2009 incident. Witnesses contacted law officers after noticing Davis was driving erratically through New Caney. His blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit for driving.

District Attorney Brett Ligon says jurors determined that Davis, who was convicted and sentenced, had used his vehicle as a deadly weapon.

Court records indicate Davis had seven previous DUI convictions.

Motorcyclist lands in van unhurt

A California motorcyclist rear-ended a minivan and was hurled through a window into the back seat but was not injured.

Investigators say the minivan driver made a turn after his collision and drove to his Mojave Desert home a half-block away before discovering he had a new passenger.

Callers reported the crash saying the motorcycle crashed and slid under the minivan on a Victorville street and the biker couldn't be found.

Investigators say the minivan slowed or stopped to make a turn and the motorcyclist slammed into the vehicle.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokesperson Karen Hunt says the minivan driver had already committed to the turn and drove a short distance to his home. He then discovered the motorcyclist in the back seat.

Controversy after kid defecates in pool

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is looking into a report that fourth- through seventh-graders at a YMCA day camp were told to lower their swimsuits in front of a counselor trying to determine which child defecated in the pool.

Police say a parent told officers that boys and girls were separated at a YMCA in Lancaster, southeast of Columbus. He told them his son was called into a locker room with another boy, both were told to pull their shorts down to their knees, and a male counselor inspected their butts.

The YMCA's executive director says up to 65 students were involved. He says there was no criminal wrongdoing but the YMCA is investigating.

He says feces found in the pool on consecutive days were a serious health concern.

Monkey bites off baby's testicle

A monkey bit off an eight-month-old boy's right testicle in a zoo in Guizhou Province and doctors said the damage was beyond repair.

A park official told the family that injuries from money attacks "are too common and happen all the time." He didn't even make an apology. His remark was recorded and shown on the TV news, which ignited outrage among Chinese netizens.

The monkey that broke loose from the cage and was playing with visitors suddenly attacked the boy when the mother was changing his diaper.

Doctors said the baby was not in danger of death but it seemed the boy would lose his reproductive ability because his testicle had been eaten by the monkey.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on charges of drug and drug paraphernalia possession.

Phillip Todd Tucker of Niceville was pulled over for not wearing his seatbelt, but was suspected of drug possession, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s report.

When he was pulled over he stated, “I can’t believe you are going to get me with a seat belt violation.”

A K-9 unit was brought in and identified that drugs were in Tucker’s vehicle.

During a search, Tucker told deputies, “Let me show you where the needles are, I don’t want anyone getting stuck.”

He identified a black backpack, which held marijuana, four pills and 28 syringes.

Northborough, Mass.: Where streets have no name

Police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of about 100 street signs.

The signs first starting vanishing from Northborough street corners about six months ago.

It's an expensive problem. Public Works Director Kara Buzanoski says the cost of replacing them is about $15,000.

Buzanoski and police Chief Mark Leahy suspect teenage pranksters, but so far there have been no arrests.

The town had a similar problem a few years ago when several teens were apparently involved in a contest to see how many signs they could purloin. When police started closing in on those culprits, the signs started reappearing. Leahy says this time the thieves will be prosecuted.

The town will replace the stolen signs. Buzanoski says the new ones are more vandal-resistant.

Man gets hit by SUV over computer repair bill

A dispute over a computer repair bill landed an Office Depot manager in the hospital and an angry customer behind bars, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office,

John Derrico, 40, is accused of hitting manager Andre Kinchen, 36, with his SUV outside Lake Worth store over a $120 computer repair bill.

Kinchen flipped over the hood of the vehicle and landed on the curb head first, employee Kaylee Whitten said.

During questioning, Derrico said "he does not remember what happened but got mad," according to a Sheriff's Office deputy quoted in the report.

Goodwill got marijuana donation

Charity shop workers in Kansas have been surprised with a mystery donation from a member of the local community.

Volunteers at the Goodwill store in Lawrence, Kansas, found marijuana mixed in with other items, deposited in the donation drop box while the store was closed.

Staff immediately contacted the police to report the find, although rather than being a misguided attempt to boost the store's takings with the illicit sale of contraband, it is suspected that the donation was more likely an accident that one individual is expected to be extremely upset about.

Officers in particular are skeptical as to whether any of the town's drug users are really that generous. 'I don't think they did it on purpose,' said Lawrence police sergeant Ted Bordman. The authorities have confiscated the cannabis and have confirmed that it will be destroyed.

Donald Leet told deputies he had a glass of wine with dinner and his driver's license was suspended.

His girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter said he was teaching her to drive.

Police found crack in woman’s underwear

Cape Coral police allegedly found crack in a woman’s bra and a crack pipe in her underwear after stopping her for running a red light.

The officer who pulled over Tommi Jelinda Chambers, 23, of North Fort Myers, noticed she appeared to be holding something in her left hand, according to a police report.

When asked what it was, Chambers opened her hand and said there was nothing there but several pieces of crack cocaine fell onto her lap.

She admitted it was crack and began crying, according to the report.

While being searched, police found a crack pipe and a pill bottle hidden in her underwear as well as another crack pipe and several more crack rocks in her bra.

The pill bottle contained Buprenorphine and a search of her car turned up Oxycodone, neither of which she had a prescription for.

$2 Lands Woman In Jail

A woman is behind bars after a man says he gave her $2, but later took it back. He told police she then ran him over with the car.

Andrew Toby said he gave 31-year-old Michele McGraw the money in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut on 103rd Street. When Toby took the money back, he said McGraw became angry and chased him with the car.

Toby was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Witnesses said they saw a car hit Toby and then crash. McGraw and a passenger were seen walking away from the wreck.

McGraw was charged with aggravated battery, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.

Man vomits contraband stash in jail

A Noorvik Alaska man already in jail for alleged assault charges got a contraband count added when he vomited a stash of cigarettes when in jail.

Troopers say 20-year-old Johnathan Carter swallowed the bag with two cigarettes in it in anticipation of going to jail.

Carter, 18-year-old Jack Wells and 28-year-old Thomas Nay were involved in a fight over stolen items. Troopers say family members and friends also were part of the altercation, which include a knife, a rifle, baseball bats and snowmobiles.

Hallucinating men call 911 for help

South Georgia authorities say two men became so high on drugs they began hallucinating and called 911 when they thought intruders had broken into a home.

Effingham County sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor said the pair is suspected of using methamphetamine around the time they called 911 for help.

Deputies responding around 4 a.m. to the home outside Savannah were told by the pair that people in a back bedroom had broken into the home, but no intruders were found.

Ehsanipoor said deputies realized they were hallucinating. He said "they were so high they called 911 on themselves."

Man scared of heights bungee jumps

A bungee jump in Dallas apparently arranged by a woman to help her future husband face his fear of heights turned into a three-hour ordeal 50 feet up when the cables got tangled.

Dallas firefighters used an aerial ladder truck to rescue William Mancera and Thalia Rodriguez of Irving.

Dallas Fire-Rescue Lt. Joel Lavender said Tuesday that neither was injured.

The couple, who plan to marry next year, seemed in good spirits after the incident and mentioned that Mancera has a fear of heights. Lavender says the ride was meant to be kind of a fun thing, as "a gift on her part, a challenge on his part."

Tammy Lee Hinton, 50 of Port Richey had just said "I Do" when officers swooped in and arrested her at the City of Zion Ministries church in Jackson, Mich.

The bride had been wanted for two years on a Michigan warrant for identity theft. The victim of the rip-off was her son, according to authorities.

Michigan authorities say Hinton racked up about $3,000 in utility bills in 2009 under the name of her son, Wesley Knauf, then 17. He discovered the debts when he applied for a credit card. Wesley searched through his mother's bills and found many with his name on it.

Hinton was booked Saturday at the Jackson County jail in her bridal attire. After posing bail she managed to make it back in time for part of her wedding reception. But Hinton was a no-show at her Monday arraignment.

Business stuck with huge phone bill after being hacked

A Bellevue, Wash., business was victim of phone hackers, leaving it with a $90,000 bill, officials say.

Reliance Mortgage owner Hank Lo's average phone bill comes to about $1,000 a month. His most recent bill from his long-distance provider, Integra, however, was for almost $90,000, chalk full of international calls to North Korea and South Africa.

"I don't know anybody in North Korea or South Africa," Lo said.

The phone bill indicates that hundreds of calls were made to the two countries, which Integra admits is implausible.

The hackers targeted the mortgage company's PBX or switchboard, so when the international calls were placed, Lo would be billed for them.

Integra offered to take about $47,000 off of the bill, leaving Reliance responsible for the remaining $41,000, which the phone company offered a payment plan of $500 a month for the next seven years.

Man sets house ablaze while cremating dog

A Dale City, Va., man accidentally set his house on fire while trying to dispose of the remains of his dead pet dog, officials say.

The owner of the large Rottweiler started the fire by putting pieces of wood next to its body and boosting the flames with gasoline.

Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family home where they found smoke coming out the front of the house and flames from the outside to the attic in the back.

Prince William fire and rescue Battalion Chief Joe Robertson explained that the gasoline had pooled near the house, extending the flames to the home.

The blaze caused $70,000 worth of damage to the home.

Robertson said it was unclear why the owner, whose name wasn't reported, was disposing of the dog by cremating it or how the dog died.

The matter was being investigated and no charges had been filed.

Man accused of not paying decade-old bills

The head of a public utility in South Carolina says he's amazed someone saved 10-year-old records. Now the utility chief executive David Bereskin chief of the Greenville Water System is set to apologize personally to a customer wrongly accused of not paying two water bills dating to 2001.

The utility sent past-due notices to Randy Massengale of Mauldin. Massengale says he called to say there must be a mistake, but employees refused to believe him and told him to pay up.

Massengale says he put the notices aside until a utility representative came knocking, threatening to shut off his water. But Massengale retrieved his old bank statement and check register, proving he paid a decade ago.

Woman fined for repeated littering in man’s yard

A Kansas woman ticketed for tossing her empty tea bottles in the same yard nearly every day for two years insists there was no malice involved.

Carole Green, of rural Bonner Springs, entered a guilty plea to four counts of misdemeanor littering.

Green was ticketed after a man who lives about two miles east of her photographed her throwing empty tea bottles into the yard of his rural Leavenworth County home.

Green says the man's yard just happened to be where she finished her tea each time. She also told the judge that if she had to do it over again, "of course, I wouldn't do it."

Judge Gunnar Sundby imposed fines of $1,200 plus court costs - the minimum amount for first-time offenders.

Sears advertises IPads at $69

Sears.com accidentally priced Apple's IPad at $69, much to the dismay of many online shoppers.

IPads are regularly priced at $744.99, so when Sears.com customers caught wind of the unbelievable deal, it went viral, CNN reported.

Unfortunately, Sears posted a statement online saying it would not honor the deal, as it was an error made by a third-party vendor.

"We want you to know that, unfortunately, today one of the Marketplace third-party sellers told us that they mistakenly posted incorrect pricing information on two Apple iPad models on the Marketplace portion of the Web site. If you purchased either of these products recently, your order has been canceled and your account will be credited," the statement said.

Many customers are unhappy with the announcement.

Bus Stop Moved To Avoid Woman's Stench

A city bus stop has been temporarily moved so bus drivers and riders can get away from the smell of a homeless woman who's living at a busy Honolulu bus shelter. That’s the first time the city has relocated a bus stop because of a homeless person, according to City Transportation Director Wayne Yoshioka.

The concrete bus shelter on Kapiolani Boulevard, right across from the Nordstrom store at Ala Moana, has been home to an elderly homeless woman for over a year.

“We were getting quite a few complaints from bus riders about her smell,” Yoshioka said. “We are trying to be as sensitive as possible,” he added, noting that it’s not illegal for the homeless to stay at bus shelters.

So the city moved the bus stop 60 feet down the street to the area in front of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Keeaumoku Street.

Man had to pay nearly $50K for stolen laptop

A man convicted of stealing a laptop from a Utah art professor will have to pay nearly $50,000 restitution for the time the professor spent reassembling Powerpoint files that were lost.

The Utah Court of Appeals denied an appeal Wednesday in the case of Michael J. Birkeland, who pleaded no contest in 2008 to stealing the laptop.

Birkeland had argued that he shouldn't have to pay for Utah Valley University professor Perry Stewart's labor because Stewart was a salaried university employee.

An appeals court upheld a judge's decision that Birkeland should pay for more than 900 hours of work logged to rename and recreate about 27,000 files that were lost in the theft, since the professor did the work beyond his normal salaried duties.

Jail stops providing free underwear to men

A Florida sheriff said men booked into his county's jail are no longer being provided underwear free of charge, but they do have the option of purchasing pairs.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the Polk County Jail canteen now sells underwear at $2.54 for a pair of briefs and $4.48 for a pair of boxer shorts.

"If they expect me to buy them, they're going to wear nothing," Judd said.

He said the policy, which does not apply to women booked into the jail, is projected to save the county $45,000 per year.

Judd said men are not allowed to bring their own underwear from outside because it takes workers too long to search the garments for drugs and weapons.

"This is all about a tough economy," Judd said. "Forty-five thousand dollars a year is someone's job."

Man leaving jail caught stealing from inmate

A man who was jailed in Baxter County is back in a cell after he was allegedly caught on camera stealing property from another inmate.

Sheriff John Montgomery says 27-year-old Matthew E. Tillery of Cotter was jailed in May on charges of nonpayment of fines and failure to appear in court. During his May 21 release, Montgomery says Tillery reached into another inmate's property box and took a wallet, cellphone and checkbook.

The theft was discovered two days later, deputies got a warrant for Tillery's arrest and picked him up without incident.

Man shaved ex-girlfriend's head

Police in Lynnwood, Wash., say a woman's former boyfriend broke into her apartment, held her down and shaved her head so she wouldn't be attractive to other men.

According to a Snohomish County police report, the woman ran to her bathroom and called 911 when the man showed up and yelled for her to open her door. Lynnwood officers say they arrived last Friday to find the front door kicked in, a man holding hair clippers and a 30-year-old woman crying and holding clumps of hair.

They say hair had been shaved from the right and back of the victim's head and her arms were bruised.

The woman told officers the man had been jealous and paranoid during their relationship. Police say the man admitted using multiple drugs that day.

He was booked into jail for investigation of burglary and unlawful imprisonment.

Homeless paid to loiter at vice mayor's home

Neighbors say a local radio host went too far Tuesday when he bused in groups of homeless people to huddle outside the home of Sarasota's vice mayor — a stunt organizer say was meant to put political pressure on city commissioners to crack down on homeless loitering downtown.

At least 30 homeless people were rounded up from area shelters and bused to a makeshift food line in a grassy median outside Vice Mayor Terry Turner's home.

The event was organized by Phil Grande, host of "Phil's Gang Radio Show" and the affluent downtown resident who helped push a slew of recent efforts to squeeze homeless people away from downtown condos.

Police say a Southern California woman drugged her estranged husband, tied him to a bed, cut off his penis with a knife and threw it down a garbage disposal.

Garden Grove police Lt. Jeff Nightengale says 48-year-old Catherine Kieu Becker was booked at the Orange County Jail for investigation of aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning and spousal abuse.

The 51-year-old victim's name was not released but Nightengale says he is in serious condition after surgery at a hospital. Nightengale says the woman told responding officers the victim "deserved it."

Thief takes 12-ton dump truck on 106-mile journey

Authorities say someone stole a 12-ton dump truck from a Columbus business and drove it 106 miles across Georgia before leaving it in a lot near Griffin.

Ricky Catrett, owner of Flat Rock Sand & Gravel, notified police when he noticed the truck was missing. Catrett said the dump truck was equipped with an advanced GPS tracking device, which showed that it was more than 100 miles away near Griffin. The GPS device created a record of the truck's journey, logging speed and location updates every five minutes. Catrett said the thief never went over the speed limit.

Spalding County sheriff's investigator Scott Piper said someone apparently tried to spray paint over the company logo on the dump truck, and also left the keys inside.

Apology for email with female officers' bra sizes

Indianapolis police commander issued a personal apology to 13 female officers after their bra size; height and weight were included in a departmental email.

"We made a mistake," Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Valerie Cunningham said. "We want to hold ourselves to the highest professional standards. The measurements should not have been included."

The email was sent to 37 commanders and was intended to tell supervisors to inform their officers that their new protective vests were ready to be picked up.

Attached to the email, however, was a spreadsheet listing the names and sizes of 91 officers, including the chest and waist sizes for 13 women whose vests needed special tailoring, Cunningham said.

14 million bees were spilled on Idaho highway

Cleanup crews in Idaho have finished clearing honey and an estimated 14 million bees that got loose after a delivery truck overturned on a highway.

Fremont County Sheriff deputies say several workers were stung during the first few hours of the cleanup.

Some observers report seeing a strange black cloud and roaring noise above the spill area before realizing it was a massive swarm of bees.

Authorities say a truck was hauling the bees from California to North Dakota when the driver veered off the shoulder, tipping more than 400 hive boxes and honey.

Crews worked all day removing the honey from the roadway, though deputies say a significant amount of bees were still buzzing.

Sheriff selling pink underwear to the public

The Arizona sheriff famous for making prisoners wear pink underwear is introducing a Spanish-language version of the shorts he sells to the public.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio began issuing pink underwear to inmates more than 15 years ago to cut down on theft. He began selling them to the public after speaking about them on national television.

The versions that went on sale are imprinted with "Vamos Jose!" The original shorts, also $15, feature a sheriff's star and a "Go Joe" logo.

"Vamos" translates to "We go" in English. A similar-sounding word, "Vamanos," means "Let's go!" in Spanish. A more accurate translation of "Go Joe!" would be "Andale, Jose!"

Woman attacks with frying pan when she was refused a razor

A North Naples woman is accused of hitting her live-in boyfriend on the head with a frying pan after he refused to let her use his razor.

Collier County deputies arrested Mary G. Batson, 22, of the 11000 block of Windsong Circle, at home on a battery charge.

Batson’s boyfriend, with whom she has a child, told deputies that his girlfriend became angry with him when he refused to let her borrow his razors to use in the shower.

According to the arrest report, Batson began attacking her boyfriend while he attempted to hide the razors. After first being clawed and scratched by the woman on his face and chest, the victim told deputies that his girlfriend then grabbed a frying pan and hit him on the head with it, leaving significant cuts on his face.

Batson stated that she slammed the pan against the counter during the altercation but denied striking him on the head with it, according to reports.

Four exotic dancers and two female bartenders in Daytona Beach, Fla., this week were awarded $195,000 in federal court to compensate them for illegal strip searches conducted during a drug raid at a gentlemen's club.

The women who endured the improper searches will each get $5,000, while their lawyers are the big winners, banking $165,000.

Besides using a search warrant the judge ruled was illegal, the strip searches took place in front of 20 male police officers or, as it happens, 91 percent of the city of Daytona Beach Shores public safety officers, given the city's Web site says there are 22 public safety officers on the police force.

Karachi: An attempt by a Pakistani man to get in touch with his divorced wife ended in disaster as the woman chopped off his genitals in a city hotel.

Abid Pervaiz, 25, was lucky to have survived the attack, a doctor on duty said.

"He was brought to the Jinnah hospital in a bad shape with severe genital mutilation wounds. It is a miracle that the man had survived despite severe bleeding," doctor said.

According to Mehmoodabad police station's duty officer SI Mohammad Azeem, Abid hails from Sukkur and was living with some distant relatives.

Man with tractor pushed sheriff car off his property

A Canadian man was charged with assault after he allegedly scooped up a sheriff's car with a forklift and carried it off his property, police said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Wilfred Doyle, 45, of St. Andrews also was charged with mischief and obstructing a police officer as well as assault with a deadly weapon after the run-in at his home last week.

The Mounties told the C.B.C. that the sheriff went to Doyle's place on Prince Edwards Island to serve him a court order. Doyle turned the routine process into a confrontation when he fired up his tractor, which was equipped with a forklift, and pushed the car out of his yard.

Doyle was released after spending a night in jail.

John Anthony Bell today received the life-time ban, from possessing matches, lighters and accelerants, under an ASBO. If he breaks it, he could face a jail sentence.

It emerged that he had been responsible for starting a series of fires across North Wales – then he rang the fire service.

Mold Crown Court heard how Bell, 27, had been depressed and drawing attention to himself.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service had spent more than £16,000 tacking the fires he started in Rhos on Sea, Old Colwyn and in Holywell, North Wales.

But significantly their time was being diverted from potentially life-threatening incidents, the court heard.

Bell was tracked down after fire service personnel noticed that his mobile phone number was appearing a large number of times to when fires were being reported.

Police arrested him and he admitted that he was responsible for starting more than 50 separate fires in wheelie bins, skips (Dumpsters), sheds, hedges, fencing panels, rubbish and even grass fires.

A woman loaded up her cart with $4,752.45 worth of items at Wal-Mart, and then tried to pay with a credit card that turned out to be stolen, authorities said.

A suspicious sales clerk refused to complete the transaction. Deputies arrested Adrienne Kelly Lipsey, 29, on charges of grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

The card, deputies determined, belonged to the 89-year-old best friend of Lipsey's grandmother.

The Takabisha, which means "highflying car" runs over 0.6 miles of track and offers panoramic views of Mount Fuji for park-goers to appreciate in the 112 second hair-raising ride.

Authorities in Horry County say a woman who called 911 from the trunk of her car to say she was kidnapped made up the story.

Investigators say the 24-year-old woman called for help around noon, telling police she was pulled out of her car by a man while stopped at a traffic light in Conway.

The woman told police the man held a knife to her throat, put her in her trunk and drove off.

It took officers about 30 minutes to find the woman using the signal from her cell phone.

Police say the woman is in custody, but no charges have been filed. They did not say why she claimed she was kidnapped.

Authorities say a Utah man was arrested after his two children called police to report that he had marijuana in the house.

The man was charged with two third-degree felony charges of child endangerment and one class B misdemeanor accusing him of possession of a controlled substance.

The newspaper says the man was found to have 23.9 grams, or almost an ounce, of marijuana in his Salt Lake City home.

Authorities say his children, ages 13 and 12, found the drug and called police.

Woman lay dead in house for eight years

The skeletal remains of a woman whose death went unnoticed for eight years were found.

The woman, Natalie Wood, who would have been aged 86, was still receiving a pension but the house’s electricity had long been disconnected. Her remains were found on the upstairs bedroom floor of her terrace home

Police said they were contacted by Ms Wood’s dead brother’s sister who had tried to make contact with her to pass on some family information. Family relations were “fractious” and the women had not been in contact since 2003.

A couple endured a health nightmare after tiny worms with teeth began eating through their bodies. It is the first time humans have been infected by the parasite in Australia.

Alfred hospital infectious disease physician Andrew Fuller said that when the couple ate the fish, believed to be a black bream, they also ingested the gnathostomiasis larvae.

"The worms are 1-3mm long and have got these sharp little teeth and they can go anywhere they like in the body," Dr Fuller said.

The worm works its way around the human body until it dies or is killed by the immune system.

"They move under the skin and cause itchy lumps that can make you feel sick - and it can be very hard to diagnose."

The infected couple suffered muscle pain, fevers, vomiting and their skin began to look like orange peel.

They were given antibiotics and have recovered.

The worms can stay in a human for 15 years, leaving people chronically ill. They can make their way into the brain, other organs and the spinal cord. "They eat your tissues," Dr Fuller said.

Lockett, who was shot in the groin, told police that he was fired upon “by an unidentified person behind him,” according to a Circuit Court filing, which notes that the 27-year-old was treated at Froedtert Hospital “for a single gunshot wound to his penis.”

The 1939 Pontiac Deluxe Six was built using a special type of perspex by General Motors and chemical company Rohm and Haas at a cost of £15,000.

Dubbed the ‘Ghost Car’ it has clocked up just 140km (86 miles) in its lifetime and is thought to be a visionary in design principles.

‘This motor still turns heads as much as it ever did,’ said a spokesman for RM Auctions which is selling the vehicle in Michigan on July 30.

'The car is in a remarkable state of preservation. It's a testament to the longevity of Plexiglas in an era when automotive plastics tended to self-destruct within a few years.

'Although it has acquired a few chips and cracks, it is structurally sound and cosmetically clear, showing off the Ghost Car's innards as it did in 1939.

'It is not, obviously, suited for touring but as a unique artifact from automotive and cultural history.'

The car made its public debut at the New York World Fair in 1939-40 and is just one of two ever made. The model which comes with a three-speed manual gearbox is thought to be the last of its kind.

Man must have been “Dead Tired”

Paul Gales the owner of Farley Funeral Home arrived at work to discover a man had broken into his business and was sleeping on his office floor, according to Lee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Gales went outside and called the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrived and conducted a safety sweep of the business, but the suspect was gone.

The sleeper had left behind a white t-shirt and orange ball cap on the floor under the broken window. The suspect was not located.

Jerking police horse's tail lands woman in jail

A woman allegedly gave a Des Moines police horse's tail a tug and wound up in jail.

Tonya Scott, 41, of Des Moines was charged with interference with official acts Sunday morning.

Police said they were clearing a congested area in front of 101 Lounge, a Court Avenue District bar, around 1:30 a.m. when Scott stepped toward Scout the horse, grabbed his tail and forcibly jerked it.

Scott was taken to the Polk County Jail. She was released later.

A Michigan jail inmate says he's being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment because he can't have pornography.

In a handwritten lawsuit, 21-year-old Kyle Richards claims his civil rights are being violated at the Macomb County Jail. Richards says denying his request for erotic material subjects him to a "poor standard of living" and "sexual and sensory deprivation."

The Michigan Department of Corrections says that prisons allow some pornographic material, though it's banned at the jail. The American Civil Liberties Union says prisons have a lot more leeway.

Richards was charged with bank robbery after police followed a trail of snowy footprints and dropped money to his apartment from a bank robbery scene in January in Fraser, north of Detroit.

Bicyclists report getting attacked by an angry hawk

Bicyclists in eastern Oregon say they're getting whacked on the head by an angry bird.

Riders in Pendleton, Ore., said that a male hawk is dive-bombing them because they're too close to a nest he's guarding in an old cottonwood tree.

Bicyclist Mack Temple says the bird came in from behind like a fighter plane and whacked his helmet. Another rider, Charlie Newhouse, says the attack on his helmet was "like getting hit with a baseball bat." He says the talons went in through the helmet.

Bird-watchers say the large bird is a Swainson's hawk. The riders say he's been vigilant for a few nesting seasons, but hasn't been as aggressive as this year.

Bird-watchers say the hawk will ease up once his brood learns to fly.

'I'll drink to that law'

Ohio's Capitol building in Columbus will be a place for making laws and making drinks.

The Ohio Statehouse's first full-service bar will open next month within an existing cafe. The bar on the building's lower level will sell beer, wine and liquor.

The Ohio agency that oversees the Statehouse says the bar will have flat-screen televisions and will be open to the public at certain times. It also will host special events and what are described as "private happy hours."

One thing it won't allow are guns.

A new Ohio law permits some concealed weapons to be carried into bars and other places where alcohol is served. But the public is prohibited from taking firearms into the Statehouse.

Bank robber steals cash and then hands some back to teller

Indiana police say a man who robbed a South Bend bank surprised a teller by handing her some of the loot before he fled.

South Bend police say the man in his early 20s told the teller "Here's some of the tens back ... you gave me too many tens" before he ran out of the Fifth Third Bank.

The teller whose identity was not released told police she "knew something was wrong" when the man entered the bank wearing a sweatshirt on a day when the temperature hovered near 80.

Police say the man said he had a weapon when he handed the teller a note demanding cash. Bank officials have not disclosed the amount taken, but the teller handed him $100, $50 and $10 bills.

Man reports theft of $1,000 in pennies

A 70-year-old Des Moines man has told police that burglars lugged off about $1,000 in pennies he'd collected in a 5-gallon jug.

Robert Schooley reported that the jug was stolen from his garage. The estimated weight of the pennies was about 550 pounds.

Schooley also says about $22 worth of gasoline was stolen from a container, which was left behind.

Man swipes Bentley during test drive

Police in Florida said they are searching for a man accused of taking a $100,000 Bentley for a test drive and not bringing it back.

Police said Justin William Durbin arranged an off-site meeting on Davis Boulevard in Naples with sales consultant Garrett Rick of Ambassador Auto Sales and sped off from the meeting place in the gray 2007 Bentley Continental GT.

He advises his customers to shoot the sticky horse semen back in one gulp rather than attempt to sip the bizarre concoction.

Man gets hand caught in gas fill tube

A Fond du Lac man got his hand stuck in a car's gas tank after he reached in to try to retrieve a Snicker's candy bar he saw inside. Firefighters freed 20-year-old Earr Stokes on Tuesday afternoon.

Capt. Tony Knecht says firefighters cut the filler pipe, and then accessed the backside of the gas tank opening to release Stokes' fingers. Once he was free, emergency personnel helped take the pipe off his hand. Officials stood by with a hose during the cutting in case there were sparks.

Stokes' cousin, Tyrone Williams, says Stokes happened to look into the gas tank and saw the candy bar. He says someone had removed it from the wrapper and jammed it into the gas tank.

Man uses fake money to get fake pot

Police say a western Pennsylvania stole a kind of "fake" marijuana while using a fake $1 million bill.

Police in Sharpsville charged 23-year-old Joseph Lombardi with trying to "purchase" a bag of herbal potpourri called "Space Cadet Flight Risk" using the bogus bill at a Food Mart store.

The substance is sold as incense but mimics the effect of marijuana when smoked, which is why the ersatz pot is included in a bill outlawing such substances that Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law last week. The ban takes effect in August.

Police have charged Lombardi with theft by deception and retail theft because they say he took the herbs and ran after putting the bogus bill on the counter.

Man put genitals in money bag

Authorities in South Carolina said they arrested a man who was allegedly caught by a store clerk with his private parts in a money deposit bag.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said a clerk at the Hot Spot store in Spartanburg told deputies the man, identified as Alan Ray Walker, 47, of Cowpens entered the store and headed for the restroom.

The clerk said she saw the man exit the store's office about 15 minutes later with his pants on the floor and his penis inside a plastic money deposit bag. She said the man left after an argument and handed the bag to another clerk on his way out.

The sheriff's office said a deputy found Walker in his truck and he was found to be in possession of a substance that tested positive for cocaine along with a glass pipe, a .25-caliber handgun and $4,200 cash.

Landlord set tenant's boxers on fire

Police in Florida said a landlord upset about being owed rent set his tenant's boxer shorts on fire while he was still wearing them.

Investigators said Jonathan Steinberg, 58, of Boynton, argued with Ronald Rohde, 52, who lives in his house, about rent money Steinberg claims he is owed.

Police said Rohde asked Steinberg to leave his room and the landlord left and returned with rubbing alcohol and a screwdriver. Steinberg allegedly cut Rohde on the back with a screwdriver and struggled with him while a 46-year-old woman who also lives in the house attempted to break up the fight.

Steinberg then splashed Rohde with the rubbing alcohol and set the tenant's boxer shorts on fire.

Teens call cops on pot-smoking dad

Police say a 44-year-old dad has been arrested after his teenage kids told police he was smoking too much pot.

Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Scott Peck tells the Deseret News that the man's 15-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter turned him in because they thought his residence always smelled funny and they didn't like him drinking and smoking marijuana.

Police say the daughter called police to turn him in, then talked with officers outside the home. As they were talking, the dad sent her a text message asking her to come back inside. The officers had her send a reply to ask him to come outside. When he did, he was arrested.

A fired Naples dental office worker sought retribution by stealing more than $10,000 in equipment from his former boss, police said.

Naples police arrested George C. Miller, 63, and his 34-year-old son, Devin L. Miller, both of Naples at their home.
Dr. Marvin Kennard, owner of Naples Dental Care, 785 Central Ave., told a Naples detective someone broke into his business and stole dental equipment such as a high-speed dental drill and patients' files.
Other items also were missing but no money, computers or other electronic equipment was missing, reports stated. The total value of stolen items was more than $10,000, reports stated.

Hancock County Sheriff's Department spokesman Matthew Carver says the photographs were taken by camera phone and digital cameras at the fire station following a fundraising event.
Carver said the girls, aged 14-16, lived nearby and was visiting the station Memorial Day weekend.
Authorities say Bayside Park firefighter’s 35-year-old Clarence Hall of Waveland and 25-year-old Vincent Reiber of Bayside Park each face a charge of child exploitation of three teenage girls posing in their underwear at the station.
Reiber was arrested. Hall, who was assistant fire chief, surrendered to authorities. Both have been fired.

Dead man sought for jury duty for 5 years
A Massachusetts man facing a criminal complaint for failing to appear for jury duty apparently had a good excuse. He's been dead for five years.
State Deputy Jury Commissioner John Cavanaugh said last week that the state will not precede with serving a criminal complaint against Michael Wylie.
The late Georgetown resident was issued a notice to serve on jury duty five years ago but at the time he was in hospice care and had terminal cancer. He died a few months later but the commission continued to send letters about his failure to report.
Wylie's family says they tried to tell authorities that he had died but officials say the family never sent a death certificate.

The World Cup dreams of one of Japan’s rising rugby stars is in tatters after he attempted to cultivate a manly moustache.
Ryohei Yamanaka, a fly-half for the national team, is awaiting the result of a second test to confirm that the hair growth cream he rubbed on his top lip did contain a banned steroid.
If that result is also positive, which appears likely, the 22-year-old player is likely to face a ban of a minimum of six months - ruling him out of Brave Blossoms’ squad for the World Cup that kicks off in New Zealand on September 9.
In a worst-case scenario, Yamanaka could be banned for as much as two years as the Japan Rugby Football Union takes a notoriously dim view of drugs in the sport.
