Company Advertises Job as Condom Tester

MELBOURNE, Australia — A major condom brand said Friday it expected thousands of applicants for a new unpaid job on offer — condom tester.
Durex said 200 adult Australians — men and women — are wanted to test a range of its condoms.
While the successful applicants will not be paid, each will receive a pack of Durex sex products, a chance to win 1,000 Australian dollars ($857 U.S.), plus professional prestige, the company said in a statement.
"Who wouldn't want to have a chance with an actual authorized professional?" Durex marketing manager Sam White asked.
"Durex is expecting thousands of applicants," the statement said.
Hopefuls must explain in their applications why they would make "expert" condom testers.
How they test the condoms is not specified, but testers must provide honest feedback about how they find the products.
No deadline is set for evaluating a range of four condoms and other sex products.

Israeli Doctors Freeze Eggs of 5-Year-Old Girls

June 30, 2007

Doctors have managed to extract eggs from 5 -year-old girls and freeze them for use when they are old enough to have children.

The scientific advance, which was thought to be impossible, will enable girls suffering childhood cancers such as leukemia to become parents later in life. Thousands are left infertile each year after undergoing chemotherapy.

It also opens the possibility of storing girls’ eggs to protect them against any form of infertility in later life.

Previously it was believed the eggs of prepubescent girls were too immature to be extracted. It was thought they became viable only at puberty by reacting to hormonal changes in the body.

Israeli doctors have, however, managed to extract the eggs and then culture them in test-tubes to make them viable. The resulting eggs are no different to those of a 20-year-old girl, say the doctors.

Report: Mother Donates Eggs to Infertile 7-Year-Old Daughter
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,288095,00.html
July 05, 2007

A 7-year-old girl could one day give birth to her biological half-brother or half-sister after her mother became what is thought to be the first woman to donate eggs to her infertile daughter.
Melanie Boivin, 35, from Montreal, has placed 21 of her eggs on ice for Flavie Boivin to use when she grows up.
Flavie has Turner syndrome, a condition in which one of the two X chromosomes normally carried by women is missing. It almost always causes infertility, though women who have the condition can conceive with donated eggs.
The mother-to-daughter donation is thought to be the first of its kind. Although many infertile women have been given eggs by their sisters, cousins, nieces and even daughters, biology has always prevented mothers from helping their daughters so far. Even if an infertile woman were just 20 years younger than her mother, the donor would likely be in her 40s and have poor-quality eggs.
By freezing her eggs while she is still in her mid-30s and fertile, Ms Boivin hopes to give Flavie a good chance of having children. Were Flavie to rely on an unrelated donor, she would probably have to wait for several years as there is a shortage of donated eggs in most countries, including Canada.

Man Goes to Hospital 3 Times in 3 Days, Then to Jail

ATHENS, Tenn. — After being struck by a car Sunday and beaten by an intruder Monday, Tony Hicks returned to a hospital a third consecutive day when police investigating a convenience store robbery shot him.
The unrelated sequence of hospitalizations was not the first time police have dealt with Hicks, whose criminal record includes a shootout with police, Detective Bill Matthews said.
A police statement said Hicks was shot after making "aggressive movements" toward officers who wanted to question him about the Tuesday night robbery near his apartment.
He was treated and released after the shooting and was in jail Thursday after a judge ordered Hicks, 42, be held on a $100,000 bond, pending a July 13 hearing on charges of aggravated robbery and attempted first-degree murder.

Sisters 10, 12 Arrested for Abducting 1-Year-Old Neighbor for Ransom

ENID, Okla. — Detectives arrested a 12-year-old girl and her 10-year-old sister on a kidnapping complaint on Thursday after they allegedly abducted their neighbor's 1-year-old son and held him for $200,000 ransom.
The pre-teen siblings, who because of their ages weren't identified, are accused of sneaking into Wells' home about 5:30 a.m., taking Brandon and other items and leaving a note.
"... if you want to see your son again then you won't call police and report him missing and you will leave $200,000 on the sofa tonight and we will return your son back safe," police said the note read. The note was signed, "The kidnappers."
Besides the note, the abductors allegedly took $20, diapers, a stroller and other baby supplies from the home.
The plan began to unravel when the girls' mother saw them with the child, whom she recognized as her neighbor's toddler, police said. They told their mother they had found the boy on the corner, according to police.
"I've been doing this 18 1/2 years, and this is the first time I know of when a 10- and a 12-year-old kidnapped a 1-year-old," Grassino said. "It definitely ranks up there with the unusual crimes."
