Startling Strawberry Crab Discovered

A marine biologist has discovered a startling new crab species that resembles a large strawberry.
The unusual crustacean was found off the coast of southern Taiwan. It has a dramatic bright red shell covered with small white bumps.
Crabs are omnivores feeding primarily on algae. There are more than 5,000 known species in the world.

20-year-old man charged with incest with 87-year-old woman
A 20-year-old man told investigators he has had sex repeatedly with an elderly relative before he was caught, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Garrett Andrew Douglas of Vero Beach was charged with incest and attempted sexual battery on a mentally defective victim. He was being held at the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Douglas was caught naked and on top of the 87-year-old relative in her room on Dec. 29, according to the arrest affidavit. The woman suffers from dementia, family members told detectives. Douglas told the Sheriff’s Office he’s had sex with the relative 20 times in the last eight years, the affidavit said.

Woman was arrested after flashing badge
A woman who flashed an Orange County Sheriff’s badge and threatened to take a Goodwill shopper to jail Monday was not a law enforcement officer, according to a police report.
Jennifer Leigh Cuccia, 36, of the 2400 block of 17th Avenue Southwest, Vero Beach, was charged with falsely impersonating a law enforcement officer and unlawful use of a police badge. She was being held in lieu of $3,500 bail at the Indian River County Jail.
The incident happened at the store in the 600 block of 21st Street, police said. Witnesses said Cuccia was arguing with another woman in the store about 6 p.m. Monday. The woman said Cuccia told her she was armed and would take her to jail, according to the report. Details of the argument were not in the arrest affidavit.
Officers were called to Goodwill and checked Cuccia’s badge, which said “victim’s advocate” on it, the affidavit states. Officials with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office had no record of Cuccia’s employment, police said.

Mom turns in son for having parking meter in his closet
A 36-year-old Jersey City Heights man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property after his mother found a parking meter stashed in his bedroom closet yesterday, police said.
Thomas Gaughran, 36, of Beach Street near Liberty Avenue was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property after police responded to his home on a domestic violence call but found a parking meter at 7 p.m., officials said.
The mother told cops she found the Jersey City Police Department coin operated parking meter cleaning out his closet Saturday, police spokesman Edgar Martinez said.
She told her son to get out of the house. But he refused and they argued, so she called police, Martinez said.
Gaughran told investigators he removed the meter from near Graham Street and Central Avenue four months ago.
Apparently he was never able to remove the coins from the meter, which had extensive damage to the upper metal casing and lower base, Martinez said.
Reached by phone today, Gaughran's mother refused to comment.The parking meter is valued at $600 but the amount of money it contained has not been determined, police said.

Indian city of Mumbai hit by condom thefts
Petty criminals who break into condom vending machines are causing concern among Aids and HIV-prevention activists in the Indian city of Mumbai.
Over 3,000 condom vending machines have been installed in the city as a part of an HIV Aids prevention program.
However, more than 500 of the machines have been damaged by petty criminals who break into them for fun, for small change or for free condoms.
A machine never contains more than 100 rupees ($2) but they may break it open to sell the parts and buy drugs.

Man finds rifle not suitable noisemaker
Using noisemakers to ring in the New Year are OK as long as the noisemaker is not a rifle, a Port St. Lucie man has learned.
St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies Friday charged Dennis Kirk Aviles, 49, of the 100 block of Northeast Entrada Avenue, with using firearm while under the influence of alcohol, discharging firearm in public and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.
According to the arrest report:
Deputes went to Aviles’s home after receiving reports of gunshots. Once there, they found him asleep on a blue lawn chair with a loaded 22 caliber Marlin rifle. Also, Aviles had more than 30 rounds of ammunition near him, a bottle of Mickey’s Fine Malt Liquor and other alcoholic beverages.
Aviles said he was shooting at his green recycling bin at the end of his driveway. However, deputies also found bullet holes in a palm tree across the street.
As of Saturday, he was in St. Lucie County Jail in lieu of $10,750 bail.

Man was arrested after he drank beer as he walked around a Wal-Mart
An Amelia man faces multiple charges after police said he stole a 12-pack of beer at Wal-Mart, drank it as he walked the store, shouted profanities at customers and threatened to kill a Fairfax police officer.
Rodger C. Wynn, 52, was arrested on charges of theft, aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct while intoxicated from the incident that occurred at 5:05 p.m. Saturday at 4000 Red Bank Road.
An affidavit said Wynn stole a 12-pack of Steel Reserve beer and a set of T-Fal cookware, a total value of $56.49.
Wynn threatened to “blow off” the arresting officer’s head during his arrest, according to a police report. He was transported to the police station where he allegedly continued his disorderly behavior and urinated several times in the interview room.

Poland Woman Arrested For Urinating On Lewiston Church
A woman was charged early Tuesday morning with urinating on a Lewiston church ramp.
42-year-old Donna Marie Bisson of Poland was arrested around 1:30 a.m. and charged with desecration and defacement, after she was seen urinating on the ramp at Holy Family Parish Center on Sabattus Street. She was also charged with violating the conditions of her bail. Lewiston police say the misdemeanor charge is similar to indecent conduct, but differs because it occurred at a place of worship.

Imelda Yorkus says she forgot she had the gun with her when she tried to go to the post office in Edmund S. Muskie federal building on Tuesday afternoon. Man Steals Milk Crates, Starts Low-Speed Police Chase
A man from Raymond is facing charges after allegedly stealing milk crates from a store and then leading police on a low-speed chase. Police say the suspect, 50-year-old Thomas Palmer, stole the empty milk crates from the Speedy Stop store on Route 302. An employee then called police and as investigators arrived on the scene, they say Palmer showed up again. Police then tried to pull him over, but he refused to stop, leading them on a chase of more than a half-mile with speeds topping out at 25 miles per hour. After the chase, he was then taken into custody and charged with theft, operating after suspension and failure to stop for police.
