Giant love spoon world record bid

A 44ft (13.41m) love spoon being carved outside Cardiff Castle is due to be completed in the next few days.
Ed Harrison from Pontsian, Ceredigion, is attempting to break the world record for the largest wooden spoon which currently stands at 25ft 9in (7.86m). Using a chainsaw, Mr Harrison is carving the spoon out of a felled Red Cedar tree from the Caerphilly area. It has taken him over a week to finish the spoon which features a heart, cage, dragon and links, all symbolizing love. Welsh love spoons, which date back to the 17th Century, were traditionally given as a declaration of love or to commemorate a marriage, anniversary or birth. You can see more of Mr Harrison's work on his website, and while there is no doubt that he's a master at carving wood, it doesn't look like spelling is his strong point.

Dating site matches couples by body odor

An American dating company claims to have cracked the secret to physical attraction and finding that perfect match – body odor. To the founders of ScientificMatch.com, love is simply a matter of chemistry.
It asks members to submit a DNA sample – the saliva-swab commonly used in paternity or drug testing – and then analyses it to calculate their ideal partner. This will be someone with “a natural odor you’ll love, with whom you’d have healthier children and a more satisfying sex life”, says the company, which claims to be “the only introduction service that creates matches with actual physical chemistry”.
The process works, the founders say, because DNA analysis enables scientists to match people with compatible immune system genes – i.e., those with different immune systems with whom they would create babies with more robust immune systems.

WASHINGTON — They are lined up like footnotes to the names etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial's polished black granite, leaning against its base, some a collective tribute to the fallen, others bearing a message for just one of the dead.

Man Crosses Mountains By Foot For Love

Journey Through California Will Take Man 150 Miles To Anaheim
September 6, 2007

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- One man decided to prove his love to a woman Thursday by attempting to cross the mountains between Bakersfield, Calif., and Los Angeles by foot, reported KERO-TV.

The 150-mile journey for Nathan Staker, 21, stemmed from a late-night phone conversation with his girlfriend, Nicole Faltermayer, which turned into a challenge of the heart.

Yet the journey didn't begin at the base of the mountains that are home to the Los Padres National Forest.

Staker began his journey Thursday in Bakersfield by jogging along Highway 119, and then along a frontage road that parallels Freeway 99.

A father's bedtime song

SOME COMMENTS
What a great song! If I had an Ipod I would want this on it.
Its very sweet -really puts it all into perspective.
Has this guy done any other songs?

This video has had over 150,000 hits since I first saw it yesterday,
so I sense a new 'interweb sensation' is imminent.

There are a two more songs by him here ...

... but they're not a touch on this.
