Blame it on Granny
A 39-year-old man was arrested for drugs after he reported a vehicle burglary, according to a Crestview Police Department arrest report.
Dennis Leroy Griffin Jr. reported 180 tablets of Xanax and Methadone stolen from his truck on the morning of Dec. 31, the report said. According to officers, Griffin made false statements concerning the reported theft, leading them to search the man’s home.
The search yielded a pipe used to smoke meth, the report said. Officers also found a pill bottle with Griffin’s grandmother’s name on it that contained several pills which Griffin didn’t have a prescription for.
Griffin said his grandmother placed the pill bottle in his pants pocket, the report said. He told his grandmother to state the drugs were hers, knowing she suffers from dementia and is incapable of making informed and voluntary decisions.
Griffin was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Man charged with stealing Army Humvee
An U.S. Army private might have made it through Volusia County this week if he had checked his gas gauge.
But what started out as an effort to help that stranded motorist ended up with him behind bars accused of stealing a military Humvee from Fort Stewart in Georgia.
Sean Aaron Johnson, 23, of New Orleans, is being held without bail in the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach, accused of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
According to an arrest affidavit, the U.S. Army also intends to charge him with being absent without leave.
After a motorist reported the Humvee sitting on the side of Interstate 95 in the Port Orange area. Deputy Jay Hawman found Johnson sitting in the vehicle that had run out of gas, according to the arrest report.
Johnson, who had only a military identification card and no driver's license, told Hawman he was transporting the vehicle to the Fort Lauderdale. Hawman said he became suspicious because Johnson did not have a copy of his orders, did not have a government fuel card to refuel the vehicle and was dressed in civilian clothing.
Hawman was arrested after the Army notified the Sheriff's Office that the vehicle was stolen.
