12-year-old girl arrested for burning boy with lighter
FORT WALTON BEACH — A 12-year-old girl was arrested for battery after she burned a boy at the W.E. Combs School, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Her charge is a misdemeanor. Lawmen say she used a Bic lighter on the boy’s elbow Monday. The incident was recorded on the school’s security system. An instructor said he smelled something burning. A female deputy searched the girl after her arrest and found the lighter wrapped in black electrical tape in her underwear. The girl is from Niceville, according to her arrest report.

Drowning woman saved by 'fetch' dog
A DOG saved a drowning woman’s life by dragging her from a fast flowing river.
Labrador retriever named Penny was hailed a heroine after she swam into the Elwy and pulled the unconscious woman to shore in St Asaph.
Her owner Brenda Owen, 58, of nearby Ashley Court, had taken her pet for a walk along the river bank on Thursday lunchtime when they spotted a figure floating in the water.
Brenda, a custody officer with North Wales Police, said: "I’d gone for a quick walk with Penny.
"It’s a lovely walk and it was absolutely beautiful. Then I spotted a wheelchair on the riverbank - at first I couldn’t imagine what had happened." I shouted: "Are you all right?"
When there was no answer, Brenda shouted: "Fetch! fetch!" and instinctively Penny jumped into the torrent.

Cops trap man in lie when he identifies himself as felon
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- A man who lied to police to hide his unpaid traffic citations almost got himself into far more serious trouble.
Police in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, say they stopped a vehicle Saturday for improper registration. One passenger identified himself to police, who ran a check on the name.
It turned out to be the name of someone who has an active felony warrant for vehicular homicide. When the passenger found out, he quickly gave police his real name. He said he lied earlier because he has outstanding traffic fines in another state and wasn't sure whether there was a warrant out for him. The male was arrested on an obstruction charge.
Before he was released, police verified through photos and fingerprints that he wasn't the vehicular-homicide suspect.

Man asks to change his name to "In God We Trust"
ZION, Ill. — Steve Kreuscher wants a judge to allow him to legally change his name. He wants to be known as "In God We Trust."
Kreuscher (CROY'-shir) says the new name would symbolize the help God gave him through tough times.
The 57-year-old man also worries that atheists may succeed in removing the phrase "In God We Trust" from U.S. currency.
He recalls that the phrase "God Reigns" was removed from the Zion city seal in 1992 after courts deemed it unconstitutional. Zion was founded as a theocracy — by a sect that believed the Earth was flat.
The school bus driver and amateur artist in the northern Chicago suburb says he has filed a petition to change his name in Lake County Circuit Court.

Oddball Ryan Nurse posed as a paramedic for 18 months – with his own ambulance, uniform and forged qualifications, a court heard. Nurse, 22, lived out his teenage fantasy by attending carnivals and sporting events. He even persuaded schools to book him to give first aid lessons to pupils. Nurse – his real name – set up a company called Medina Emergency Medical Services as part of his scam. In 2005 he was given an award by the duped St John Ambulance for 500 hours of voluntary medical work in a year. Nurse then bought a secondhand ambulance and some old equipment.
He even turned up to work as a paramedic at the international yachting regatta Cowes Week – although he had been hired only as a car park attendant.
