Deputy suspended over Burger King beef

A Florida deputy sheriff was suspended after an incident that began when his wife got the wrong order at Burger King, officials said.

Polk County Deputy Jason Platt was given a 16-hour suspension for asking restaurant employees for their identification and also summoning a Lakeland police officer to get involved in the beef.

"I find it disturbing that a deputy sheriff would tarnish the image of the Polk County Sheriff's Office by getting involved in a dispute over a cheeseburger order at Burger King," Sheriff's Capt. Kevin Widner wrote in a memo on last month's incident.

The incident began when Tara Platt got the wrong order and occurred last month at a Burger King. She called her husband, who contacted Lakeland police and then showed up himself and asked the staff for ID.

"The worker asked why I needed her information," Deputy Platt wrote in his own version of the events. "I advised her it was in reference to the disturbance that occurred with a customer."

Burglar took empty gumball machine

Police in Ohio is puzzled by a burglar who they say broke into a convenience store and took nothing but an empty gumball machine.

Detective Bob Walton in Martins Ferry says the machine held no coins or gumballs. He also points out that the thief early Thursday didn't touch liquor bottles or cartons of cigarettes displayed nearby.

Surveillance video shows the man hurling a brick or sandstone through a store window, then entering and running directly to the 4-foot-tall gumball machine at the back of the store. He fled through the same window.

Walton says police in the eastern Ohio community along the Ohio River can't figure out a motive.

Car stolen from NJ in 1975 recovered in Calif.

A classic muscle car stolen from New Jersey's largest city nearly 36 years ago has been recovered on the other side of the country.

A Santa Maria, Calif., man bought the 1969 Chevy Camaro SS from a seller on eBay in February. But Keith Williams contacted the California Highway Patrol after certain features of the car didn't match the model.

Police discovered the vehicle was stolen from Newark, N.J., on July 8, 1975.

The original owner, Janice Maffucci, said the car was stolen from the post office where her father worked. She can't believe the vehicle was recovered.

Maffucci says she plans to sell the car.

Police are tracing the registration in hopes of finding the thief.

Girlfriend turns in Ho-Hum bank robbery suspect

Investigators say a man suspected in bank robberies in four Western states was turned in by his girlfriend after a failed attempt to win her back.

Adam Lynch confessed to being the so-called "Ho-Hum bandit" to his girlfriend, Julia Lundstrom, at an Irish bar in downtown Denver.

Jefferson County sheriff's investigator Tom Acierno said the relationship was unraveling and they met as Lynch tried to win the woman back.

Lynch reportedly owed Lundstrom more than $11,000 and explained that recent deposits into her bank account came from the sale of stocks and bonds. She didn't buy it and Lynch reportedly confessed to the bank robberies in an effort to come clean.

The FBI believes Lynch hit banks in Denver, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle and Cheyenne, Wyo.

Cop accused of sex with prostitute in squad car

Detroit Police are investigating allegations that an on-duty officer had sex in his squad car with a prostitute, officials said Friday.

Details were scarce, but police said internal affairs investigators are looking into the allegations that the officer engaged in sex acts with the prostitute in his police cruiser two weeks ago while it was parked somewhere in the Northeastern District. The officer is assigned to the department's Western District, police said.

The officer was on duty when other officers approached the car and found him engaged in sexual activity, police said.

"Right now the officer is suspended with pay," said Officer Dan Donakowski, a police department spokesperson. "It is under investigation."

The Board of Police Commissioners, which has civilian oversight over officers, is aware of the allegations.

The Rev. Jerome Warfield, the police commission's chairman, said a cop having sex with a prostitute "certainly could lead to termination."

Police spokesperson Sgt. Eren Stephens said Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. will seek to have the officer's pay suspended while the issue is investigated.

Police dog 'Fired' after biting jogger

Authorities in Stamford say one of their police dogs has been demoted to house pet after attacking a jogger near its handler's home in Greenwich this week.

The 52-year-old woman required 30 stitches after the incident Monday night, and the German shepherd named McGee has been placed on 14-day quarantine.

Stamford police also apologized to the jogger and took McGee off the job permanently.

Police say a sergeant was putting McGee into his cruiser when the dog ran after the passing jogger and bit her leg, arm and wrist. The sergeant pulled the dog off the woman, whose injuries were not life-threatening.

Stamford Police Chief Robert Nivakoff said McGee also had previously nipped a delivery worker at the sergeant's home, although no formal complaints were filed in that case.

Officer asleep at the wheel

Cedar Rapids Iowa Police are investigating a photograph obtained by an anti-tax activist that appears to show an officer sleeping in his squad car.

Tim Pugh, who helped organize opposition to a sales tax referendum last week, said he was forwarded the photograph by a friend. Pugh said the photo was taken on the city's southwest side by another individual who wishes to remain anonymous because he fears retaliation.

Pugh e-mailed the photograph to police and media outlets, complaining about what he called a waste of tax dollars.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says the investigation so far has not yet been able to determine whether the photo is authentic. She says investigators are trying to determine whether an officer was involved and should face any discipline.

Thief Krystof Dzielekci, 35, and his 59-year-old father Leon lifted the marble lid on his grandfather's tomb to find what he thought was the ultimate hiding place.

The pair were caught the next day when security staff at the cemetery in Zyznowa, Poland, reviewed the night's CCTV tapes and saw them digging up the grave.

"It was a good hiding place, but you'd have to be pretty hungry to want to eat any sausage once it's been down there with your grandfather's body," a police spokesman said.

Bus driver suspended for using mobile phones and steering with elbows

An Italian bus driver shocked passengers by using two cell phones at the wheel while he steered with his elbows. The driver took out the two devices and began casually chatting away as he transported travelers to Rome's Ciampino.
A quick-thinking passenger turned the tables on the driver, however, by capturing his antics on film.

The driver had been "suspended pending disciplinary proceedings" by Italian bus firm Cotral, quoting regional transport chief, Francesco Lollobrigida.
Using even one mobile phone while driving is illegal in Italy.
Lazio governor Renata Polverini condemned the driver's actions as "unacceptable and reckless".
"People who are responsible for the safety of others must not behave like that," she told reporters, amid calls to have him sacked (FIRED).

4 arrested, accused of selling drugs, raccoon meat

Four people were arrested at a North Houston car wash where, in addition to washes and waxes, illegal drugs and raccoon meat were sold, Houston police said.

Undercover officers said they went inside the full-service car wash located in the 4300 block of Yale and were able to purchase marijuana, prescription drugs and liquor.

HPD's deferential response team raided the business after receiving complaints from neighbors.

Police said they found two weapons and more than 1,000 prescription pills. Police checked the serial numbers of the two guns, and a 12-gauge came back reported stolen.

In addition to that, investigators said illegal gambling was taking place. There were two dominoes tables set up. Undercover officers who went into the business earlier in the day said there was high-stakes gambling going on inside a shed in the back.

The owner Michael Maxwell said its all lies.

“I don't know why they are here. They don't have a warrant. They come storming into my place,” Maxwell said. “I got all my permits that go with this place. I am licensed with the city. I pay my taxes. This is my property and it is private.”

Students disciplined after farting on bus

A Canal Winchester, Ohio man says he's amazed his 13-year-old son and another boy were suspended from the school bus for a day after passing gas and causing a ruckus.

James Nichols says the incident led to giggling and heckling and prompted riders to lower windows.

The boys apparently were considered repeat offenders because a driver had warned them after a similar indiscretion weeks ago. This time, officials at Canal Winchester Middle School decided it was an obscene gesture that violated the student code of conduct.

Nichols says its "laughable" the boys would be punished for something natural and unintentional.

His wife says she's offended by it after recently being hospitalized with gastro-intestinal problems.

Thief returns victim's debit card after getting cash

Baltimore police are searching for a man who broke into a home, stole a woman's debit card and then returned it to the victim about 10 minutes later.

Police say the man was armed with a knife when he broke into the Charles Village house. The thief woke a woman, showed his knife and demanded cash.

The victim said she didn't have any cash but handed over her debit card. Police say the suspect used it to get money and then returned the card about 10 minutes later and fled.

Blind man confused over 'mystery enema'

The 53-year-old Californian man answered the door to a woman who claimed she was there to give him an enema.

As the man had recently undergone intestinal surgery, he assumed the visit was part of his rehabilitation and allowed the woman into his home to perform the procedure.

The woman took him into the bedroom, had him drop his trousers and lie face down on his bed, before performing the enema in less than two minutes.

A day later, the man began wondering about his experience and contacted the Sonoma Police Department to report the incident.

The investigating officer contacted the man's doctor and was told that an enema had not been prescribed, ordered or approved.

Due to the condition of the man's eyesight, he was unable to offer police a description of the mystery woman and she left no clues of her identity at the scene.

Sonoma police have now turned the case over to the domestic and sexual assault unit of the Sonoma Sheriff's Office, who has yet to make sense of the incident.

Mom investigated for using Botox on daughter

San Francisco authorities are investigating a mother who said on a national television program that she gives her 8-year-old daughter Botox injections.

Trent Rohrer with the city's Human Services Agency says that officials need to sit down and talk with Kerry Campbell and her daughter, Britney. Rohrer says it was unusual for a mother to inject a child with the anti-wrinkle shot.

Campbell appeared with her daughter Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America." She enrolls Britney in beauty pageants and says she got the idea to give her daughter Botox from other pageant mothers.

Rohrer says his office received numerous calls from people concerned about Britney's well-being after the TV appearance.

Botox injections can be painful and are not recommended for anyone under the age of 18.

Driver swerves ends up in swimming pool

A driver who swerved to avoid a rabbit in the road made a splash landing when she sailed through a garden hedge into a swimming pool.

Martina Boller, 42, told police in Grafenwoerth, Austria, she'd braked and steered suddenly when she realized the bewildered bunny wasn't going to move.

One firefighter said: 'She managed to land exactly in the pool which would have been quite a stunt if she'd meant to do it.

'Apart from being very wet and very embarrassed the driver was not hurt.'

She said: 'It's basically a cord and it pumps fluid in the breast pocket. The string implants irritate the breast pocket which, in turn, promotes the production of fluid.'

The fluid is absorbed by the implant, resulting in continuous, gradual growth of the breasts.

She admitted she got the enhancements mainly in order to 'get noticed'.

Chelsea is yet to get them officially measured and Maxi Mounds is currently in the Guinness Book of Records for having the biggest breasts.

She believes her breasts are bigger, but she is waiting for Guinness to get in touch.
