Boozed-up British tourists have to watch where they walk in Alicante after a new patterned pavement has been laid causing nausea and confusion.
The crazy design in the Spanish holiday resort causes the eye to think that the pavement is not flat but stepped.
Set in rows of diamonds at 90 degrees to each other, the opposing slabs create an optical illusion tricking the walker into thinking the walkway is a series of never ending steps.
The design has been causing confusion for British holiday makers as they stumble home after night of drinking.
Some have fallen over and others have suffered nausea.

Woolly, like a sheep, yet it looks like a dog

A sheep gave birth to a dog on a farm in China, claims its owner Liu Naiying, who has had people flocking to see the woolly 'lamb-puppy'.
'When I went up close to check on the lamb I was shocked because it looked so weird, like a cross between a sheep and a dog. 'I was a bit frightened, as I've been raising sheep for 20 years and had never seen such a creature.'

Though it has wool like a lamb's, the creature's mouth, nose, eyes, paws and tail are most definitely dog-like. Liu says the creature even plays like a puppy.
Vets, oddly enough, have stepped in and pointed out that it's impossible for a sheep to give birth to a dog, but that hasn't stopped the lamb-dog tourists rocking up to the farm in Fugu County, Shaanxi Province, in their droves.

Woman falls asleep at drive-thru
A Tampa Bay-area woman faces several charges after authorities say she passed out while she and three children waited at a Burger King drive-thru.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office reports that employees called authorities Tuesday night after watching 27-year-old April A. Musson fall asleep in her car. Children -- ages 1, 3 and 5 -- were also in the vehicle.
The sheriff's office says deputies found an oxycodone pill and marijuana on Musson, and she told them she had smoked marijuana earlier that day. Musson was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, child abuse, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

An Ohio man says Time Warner Cable told him he owed the company $16.4 million.
Daniel DeVirgilio, of Beavercreek, says his payment was rejected because it wouldn't cover the total. His bill is usually $80.
DeVirgilio wanted to watch the NCAA basketball tournament's Sweet 16 but didn't expect it to cost a million dollars per team. He jokes he should have added Showtime to his channels because the charge of a few extra dollars doesn't seem big in comparison.
Time Warner says human error is to blame for the payment problem. Officials say a worker typed the wrong amount owed, and a letter to DeVirgilio was automatically generated. They're working to resolve the issue.

2 arrested for meth after car runs out of gas
Two Missouri men are facing charges after the car they were in ran out of gas -- and responding officers allegedly found a mobile meth lab.
Maries County deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person on Route 68 near St. James around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. Sheriff Chris Heitman says deputies found a vehicle that had run out of gas.
They then found the two men from the car, along with components of "shake-and-bake" meth, which is typically made by shaking up ingredients in a 2-liter soda bottle. Both men are now jailed.

2,500 stolen rubber ducks
Police in the western Chicago suburb of Yorkville are searching for thousands of stolen yellow rubber ducks.
About 2,500 ducks were taken sometime this week. Police say several of the toy ducks have been found on a Yorkville roadway since they were stolen. Police ask anyone who finds a duck to return them.
The Yorkville Citizens Police Academy planned to use them for its annual charity "Duck Pluck."

Fat Ho Burgers defends controversial name

Fat Ho Burgers might seem to some like an unusual name for a restaurant, but its owner has defended her choice after coming under fire from local businesses.
Lakita Evans is the mastermind behind the burger joint and its unconventional name, and said she had no intention of causing offence. 'It's not calling people a ho. It's just like they say, "Oooh that ho is big," or, "That ho is tight!"'
Other local business owners don't see it that way and the 23-year-old entrepreneur has come under criticism from the nearby Gospel Cafe, an eatery and bookshop run by religious volunteers.
However, Ms Evans has defended the Fat Ho Café. The economy is bad somebody got to keep a sense of humor around here,' she said.
The burger restaurant, which serves the Quadruple Bypass Burger and Flatline Fries, hit the headlines after saying anyone weighing over 350 pounds could eat for free.

Taxing Toilet Paper

Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle suggests a federal tax on toilet paper would be an appropriate way to fund sewer improvements.
The city will probably not be able to handle the entire $1.7 billion cost of upgrading its sewer system. By federal mandate, the work must be completed by 2024.
He said he picked up the idea from a 2009 bill introduced by an Oregon congressman that failed to become law.
"I heard about it and said, 'Well, this is simple. Let's put it on the table,'" Suttle said. "It doesn't mean I endorse it."
The mayor brought up the problem of sewer upgrades during a meeting Tuesday in Washington of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. He did not talk about the possibility of a 10-cents-a-roll toilet paper tax.
In Omaha, a 10-cent tax would increase the cost by about 10 percent.

It turns out a Chicago man claimed a $9 million Illinois lottery jackpot with only a few days to spare.
The winning ticket was sold on the southeast side of Chicago on March 24, 2010, and would have been worthless if not claimed within a year.
Illinois Lottery spokesperson Tracy Owens tells that the man who bought the ticket found it last week in a tax folder and claimed it just in time.
Owens says Irving Przyborski bought a number of tickets and the winner somehow fell into the tax file. He didn't find it until he decided to do his tax returns this year.

Man calls 911 to stop a train
There was no such thing as a free ride for a western Colorado man who hopped a freight train to catch a ride to work.
Glenwood Springs police say the cost for 40-year-old James Salazar was three days in jail after his arrest on a misdemeanor trespassing charge. He pleaded guilty.
The Fruita man was arrested after he called 911 from atop an eastbound train Saturday night. Police say Salazar wanted off the train because it was cold and the train hadn't stopped at his destination.
Police believe Salazar got on board in Grand Junction. The train stopped near Glenwood Springs, about 80 miles to the east.
Police Chief Terry Wilson says he can't remember anyone else ever calling to stop a train.

Only thing taken was a condom machine
A condom machine has been stolen from a closed Bellingham, Washington sports bar, where fixtures are being auctioned off.
Police spokesman Mark Young also says an ATM machine was damaged in the break-in early Tuesday at the old Quarterback Pub. It's been closed for more than a year.
An auction company employee discovered the burglary. It's unknown if any condoms were left in the machine when it was stolen.

Woman gets over a half of a million in trash-injury case
A former Southern California woman who claims she suffered neck injuries from a tossed trash bag full of tissue paper has bagged a $535,000 settlement.
Anne Burdette's has settled a lawsuit accusing a janitorial company of negligence.
Burdette claimed that in 2007, an office cleaner tossed a 3- to 5-pound bag of tissue paper down a stairwell at the UPS center in Anaheim where she worked. Burdette claims it struck her in the head and aggravated an existing neck injury.
Her attorney, Alex Galindo, says Burdette couldn't return to work and has since moved to Hawaii.

Man protest town decision with toilets
A Kittery Maine plumber has put more than a dozen toilets on his lawn to protest a town decision that he feels led to more parking on the street where he lives.
David Linscott says the 17 toilets of various designs and colors outside his home are meant to show his disdain for the closing of an elementary school, which led to more parking near a now-expanded middle school.
He's been displaying the toilets on his lawn since the fall.

Woman steals cruiser, Woman crashes cruiser
Authorities in Riviera Beach Florida says a woman who was handcuffed by police and placed on the back seat of a patrol car managed to drive off in the cruiser, crashing it blocks away.
Police in Riviera Beach said Monday that officers responded to a weekend call of a possible sexual assault, but the woman who complained appeared to be suffering from a mental illness. Authorities say police were still investigating Sunday afternoon when the handcuffed woman squeezed through the window to the front seat and drove off, crashing into a pickup truck soon after.
Both the woman and pickup driver were taken to a hospital, but the extent of any injuries was not clear. It's unclear what charges the woman might face. The Associated Press doesn't identify possible victims of sexual assault.

What comes around goes around
A Boise, Idaho man suspected of stealing a wallet from the desk of a prospective employer has been arrested after calling police to report that his wallet was missing.
Boise police realized the man who reported the missing wallet matched the description of the suspected wallet thief and arrested 25-year-old Daniel Damico on suspicion of burglary and grand theft.
Police say they believe Damico disposed of the stolen wallet, but used a credit card to buy tobacco at two stores. It was when he was leaving the second store Tuesday that he thought he may have dropped his own wallet.
Police recovered the credit card and the stolen wallet. Officers suspect someone else found Damico's wallet. It has not been recovered.

Man gets jail time for bringing beer to court
Authorities say a Monticello, New York man appearing before a judge on a felony drunken driving charge arrived at court an hour and a half late, drunk and carrying an open can of beer.
Sullivan County Deputy Sheriff Eric Chaboty says Keith Gruber of Swan Lake had four unopened beer cans in his bag Monday when he tried to walk through the metal detector at the county courthouse.
Judge Frank LaBuda asked the 49-year-old Gruber if he enjoyed his "liquid lunch." Gruber said he did, and then said he was sorry. The judge revoked his bail and sent him to jail, where he remains.

Boy claimed shooting to cover up torn pants
Salt Lake City Police say a 14-year-old teen from Salt Lake City, Utah was trying to cover up for falling and ripping his new pants when he reported a bullet grazed him.
South Salt Lake police Sgt. Mikael Wersland said that the teen reported the shooting. Police say 10 people were questioned and told the police they did not hear any gunfire in the area at the time.
Wersland says the boy "fell down and tore the knee" of his pants, but lied about being grazed by a bullet because he didn't want to get into trouble. The sergeant says the teen only suffered a "scrape where he fell down."
The boy’s identity has not been released. It was not immediately known whether he would be charged with any crime.

Boston turns Restroom into Eatery
A former public restroom in an historic Boston park is being turned into a sandwich shop.
Don't get grossed out. The 660-square-foot "Pink Palace" on Boston Common built in the 1920s hasn't been used as a restroom in decades.
City officials announced they have agreed to a 15-year lease with the Florida-based Earl of Sandwich chain for a takeout operation at the site. The goal is to open the shop later this year or early next year following renovations.

Church Lottery
A Hamilton, Ohio church that gave away $1,000 to fill more pews last Easter Sunday says it will do it again this year.
Lindenwald Baptist Church in Hamilton draws names to award $500 each to a member of the congregation and a guest.
Pastor Randy Moore says the southwest Ohio church had hoped for 1,000 worshippers last year, when it made the offer for the first time. It packed in 1,140 - more than double the usual Sunday attendance of around 500. Moore says a crew had to direct traffic in the parking lot.
Easter falls on April 24 this year. The pastor says given the economy, the church will continue the cash giveaway to provide a financial as well as a spiritual blessing on the holiday.

Stolen ostrich runs all the way home

An ostrich stolen from a farm in Romania showed homing pigeon skills after managing to escape from her captors to run all the way home at 40mph.
The big flightless birds, native to Africa, are famous for their ability to run at high speeds but are not so well known for their homing skills.
But one lucky ostrich in Romania managed to navigate all the way back home after being stolen by rustlers.
Owner Florin Diaconescu, 47, was very relieved to see her return back to the farm and was amazed at how she had managed to return by herself.
'I had given her up as gone forever,' he explained.
'But I saw this cloud of dust heading towards the farm and she came running into the yard as fast as her legs would carry her.'
