Burglar fails to crack a safe with help from the Internet

A former restaurant manager was arrested early today after he allegedly hid in the ceiling of the a local restaurant’s men’s room until closing and then tried to break into the safe in the manager’s office. The problem was, he didn’t know how to crack a safe, authorities said. So he surfed the internet for instructions and used a drill he found in the manager’s office to drill three holes in the safe. Branden M. Tingey, 28, of Delaware City, was arrested after fleeing the rear of the establishment on North Dupont Highway by the New Castle Airport. When officers were investigating the crime, they asked the restaurant’s general manager to see the computer. “The manager moved the mouse on the darkened screen, and “How to Crack a Safe” came up on the screen on the Yahoo page” said Delaware River and Bay Authority police spokesman Cpl. Joseph DiStefano.
