Britney Spears did it with Madonna, Katy Perry sings about it, and Lindsay Lohan is living it. Girls kissing girls has become cool.
Having taken off in the celebrity world, it's not unusual to see everyday women at it too.
"Seeing these famous faces openly embracing their sexual status has probably made a lot of girls in the proverbial closet feel more comfortable about exploring their feelings and urges,'' Cosmopolitan magazine editor Bronwyn McCahon said.
Merryn Johns, editor-in-chief of Lesbians On The Loose magazine, said girls kissing girls had never been more in the mainstream.
But she accused celebrities such as Katy Perry, with her hit song, I Kissed A Girl, of exploiting sexuality.
Perry has a boyfriend and grew up singing in church.
"Katy Perry has ditched evangelism for a sexy cash-in,'' Johns said.
Australian singer Kate Miller-Heidke recently married her long-term male partner, but said she had experimented with same sex relationships when younger.
Miller-Heidke said Perry's hit song was offensive.
"It is pretty tacky for girls to go around pushing other girls to try to turn guys on,'' she said.
Same-sex relationships have previously been shunned upon in Hollywood, although in recent years that appears to have changed, particularly for women.
In 2003 Madonna kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV Awards and actress Lindsay Lohan has confirmed she is in a relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson.
Pop star Pink has also spoken openly about her experimentation.
In Australia it is still illegal for homosexuals to marry, although girls kissing girls has become common, particularly in the celebrity scene.
