Police arrest wrong woman after identity is stolen
.
Kim Fossen came to KATU News last week after Clackamas County deputies shackled her and locked her up in front of her two-year-old child on a felony fugitive warrant, accusing her of theft and prostitution.
The warrant was out of the state of New York charging her with burglary in the second degree and grand larceny.
Fossen sat in jail for more than a day but she wasn’t the criminal; instead, it was 22-year-old Lien Thi Huynh, a Miami Beach escort who was using Fossen’s identity for at least three years and committing crimes in her name.
But in Naples, Florida police finally got the right person – Huynh – the fake Kim Fossen.
Even Huynh’s mug shots from Miami-Dade and Broward counties listed her as 30-year-old Kim Fossen.
Police accused Huynh of a bar hook-up theft. They said she stole a man’s Jaguar with $168,000 in jewelry and Louis Vitton Luggage after meeting him in a bar, hooking up with him the next day at a restaurant, and then going to the man’s house.

The owner of one of the world’s fastest production automobiles accidentally drove his fine-tuned, French-built car into a saltwater lagoon Wednesday.
The man, who police said was from Lufkin, was uninjured after escaping the partially submerged Bugatti Veyron as it came to rest in about 2 feet of saltwater.
The two-seater, with 16 cylinders and four turbo chargers, can reach speeds of more than 250 mph. New models sell for about $2 million.
The man, who refused to give his name, was looking at real estate in Galveston.
About 3 p.m. a low-flying pelican distracted him as he traveled north on Interstate 45 just south of the hurricane levee near Omega Bay.
The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car’s front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon.
It’s the rarest car in the world, not something you can just replace, the man said.
That Bugatti Veyron was one of only 200 made and one of only about 15 in the United States.

Call it birth defect or wish of the Almighty, a goat with six legs, four testicles and three penises will be spared from holy sacrifice on the occasion of Id-ul-Juha (Bakrid) this year.
While the black-colored goat, barely one-year-old and weighing around 10 kg, is all set to attract attention during the goat exhibition prior to the festival, the owner of the goat has ruled out any chances of sacrifice of the unique goat on the auspicious day.
"This goat is a gift of God and the sacrifice of such a goat is not allowed in Islam," said Sher Mohammed, the owner of the goat. "The goat can be displayed during Bakrid exhibition, but sacrifice of the goat is strictly prohibited," he added.

Marijuana Cafe Opens in Portland
The United States' first marijuana cafe opened on Friday, posing an early test of the Obama administration's move to relax policing of medical use of the drug.
The Cannabis Cafe in Portland, Oregon, is the first to give certified medical marijuana users a place to get hold of the drug and smoke it — as long as they are out of public view — despite a federal ban.
Members pay $25 per month to use the 100-person capacity cafe. They don't buy marijuana, but get it free over the counter from "budtenders".
There are about 21,000 patients registered to use marijuana for medical purposes in Oregon. Doctors have prescribed marijuana for a host of illnesses, including Alzheimer's, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and Tourette's syndrome.
On opening day, reporters invited to the cafe could smell, but were not allowed to see, people smoking marijuana.

A fast food restaurant manager went to the extreme in training his staffers on how to handle a hold-up situation: his method scared paying customers and earned a serious reprimand from local police.
A manager of a Sonic in St. Joseph, Mo., recently staged a lunchtime mugging, recruiting someone to enter the restaurant with a real-looking toy gun and hold it to an employee's head. Problem was, employees weren't the only ones taken by surprise: When authorities received frantic reports from panicked customers of a potential hostage situation, they sped to the restaurant to resolve it. No arrests were made in conjunction with the pseudo-crime.

Woman faces DUI when she mistook cop for Sonic car hop
A woman who mistook a police officer for a car hop at a Sonic drive-in was charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia. A caller to 911 Saturday reported the woman nearly struck several vehicles before pulling into the drive-in.
Elizabethton Police Officer Sarah Ellison found the woman slumped over the steering wheel. When Ellison tried to get the woman's attention, the woman handed her a $20 bill, continuing to offer it even after she identified herself as an officer.
The woman was arrested and the officer found a syringe, a spoon with white powdery residue and numerous bottles of prescription medicine in the car.

Man Robs Mom to Pay Parking Ticket
A 27-year-old Anchorage man has been convicted of robbing his mother at gunpoint because she didn't give him money to help pay a $430 parking ticket. The Anchorage district attorney said Friday that Cheng Saelee was also convicted of illegally contacting his mother from jail and trying to get her to drop the charges.
Prosecutor Gustaf Olson said Saelee was arrested in November 2008 after he became angry during an argument with his parents got a handgun from his room and pointed the weapon at his mother's head.
He was scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 19 and faces up to 12 years in prison.
Olson said Saelee might also be deported to Thailand after he serves his sentence.
The ticket was for abandoning a vehicle.

Drunken man survives being run over by train
Police in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin said a highly intoxicated man who survived when multiple freight train cars rolled over him is "the luckiest SOB alive." Police Major Kevin Lemke said Canadian National Railway employees reported they ran over someone lying between the tracks and did an emergency stop about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officers found a 42-year-old local man in some bushes 20 feet away from the tracks. The man indicated he was walking when he saw the train and jumped out of the way.
But Lemke said he tends to believe the employees over an intoxicated man. The man had no serious injuries and received a trespassing citation.
Canadian National spokesman Patrick Waldron said such an incident usually results in serious or fatal injury.

Man calls 911, asks for sex; he gets jail instead
Joshua Basso said his cell phone ran out of minutes Wednesday, so he called the one number that he knew is always free — 911 — with an unusual request.
He wanted someone to have sex with him.
When 911 operators hung up on him, he called back four times, police said.
Fifteen minutes after his last call, police arrested Basso at his home, at 4202 N Nebraska Ave., on charges of making a false 911 call. He was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail, where he remains without bail.
Basso has been arrested a dozen times in Hillsborough on charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, violation of probation, domestic violence battery, possession of marijuana, trespassing and burglary, jail records show.

Bus hits police station
The alleged flasher being blamed for a bus crash in Hamilton is just 14-years-old.
Police say the teenager exposed himself to a fellow bus passenger, causing the terrified woman to scream.
The driver immediately drove to a nearby police station on River Rd, with the woman still screaming.
The driver stopped and opened the door, but unfortunately forgot to put the bus into neutral.
The vehicle rolled forward, crashing into the police station's entrance way.
No one was injured but the bus suffered a cracked windscreen and the building received minor damage.
Police have arrested the 14-year-old boy and charged him with carrying out an indecent act.

"John" paid to have sex with girl
A man who allegedly paid the mother of a 14-year-old girl so he could have sex with the child has been charged with sexual assault.
The child told investigators that her mother would use a cell phone to contact different men, telling them that "fresh meat" was available.
When the mother's cell phone records were reviewed, "an extensive contact list was revealed."
In addition to the sexual-assault charge, 48-year-old Mark Mathias was charged with soliciting for child prostitution as well as sexual assault — pattern of child abuse.
Prosecutors said the mother was charged earlier with pimping and pandering of a child. Her bail has been set at $200,000.
Mathias is being held on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County court Wednesday to be advised of the charges.

Police in Bellevue, Washington have arrested a woman for allegedly raping her daughter's 14-year-old boyfriend.
The 32-year-old woman, who was arrested Thursday at her home for investigation of second-degree child rape, has not been charged.
Police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate said the crime allegedly occurred at the woman's home and was brought to the attention of police last month by state Child Protective Services workers.
Details of the alleged crime and CPS case were not available.

Nose-Less Suspected Robber Turns Self In
A man who left part of his nose behind after an alleged robbery in Tuscumbia has turned himself in.
Florence Police say 40-year-old William T. Cole turned himself in on outstanding warrants Thursday morning.
If you recall, on Monday, police say Cole broke into a home in Tuscumbia.
The homeowners were asleep and heard Cole breaking in.
There was a struggle between the victims and the suspect, in which a tip of the suspect's nose was bitten off.
The suspect only got away with $100, and left behind a big piece of evidence - his nose.
Police found the nose at the scene.

Printed on cardboard in the familiar colors, the signs bear even the authentic department and Great Walks logos.But that is where the similarities end, with messages advising people to wear nappies and directing people to a public toilet up a steep rock face.
One sign found on the Routeburn in September reads: "Please do not defecate in our National Parks. Heavy duty tramping nappies are available from all DOC visitor centers free of charge, and DOC hut wardens carry an emergency supply. Toilets in conservation areas are strictly for urination only."
