A Cherokee County woman who was stopped for speeding has been charged with impersonating a police officer after an unusual collection of police paraphernalia and gun holsters was found in her car. Officials said 22-year-old Nicole Bear of Woodstock was in the Cherokee County Jail Thursday and was also charged with drug possession and giving a false name.
Investigators found items belonging to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office inside her car. Officers also found a photograph of Bear wearing a Cobb County police uniform.
Bear told them she commuted from Woodstock to Appling, to work for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. When contacted, the Columbia County Sheriff’s office said she was never employed with them.
One Cherokee County Sheriff's deputy wrote in his report that Bear appeared to be a police groupie who “traded sex'' to gain entry to the law enforcement world.
While Cherokee County sorts out the information on Bear, the Cobb County Police Department and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office are conducting internal investigations to determine how she came into possession of some of their property.
