Microsoft's New Search Engine Puts Porn in Motion
You can get a bang out of Bing — and that's not a good thing, Internet safety experts warned on Monday.
Bing, Microsoft's new search engine (http://www.bing.com/), went live in the U.S. this weekend, aiming to challenge and possibly unseat industry titan Google.
But bloggers and Internet safety experts quickly discovered that one of Bing's "features" is that it takes only a few clicks for anyone — of any age — to view explicit pornographic videos without even leaving the search engine.
In its bid to beat Google, Microsoft has unveiled a slate of convenient features for Bing, including an "autoplay" tool that lets users preview videos simply by hovering a mouse over them.
That asset may become a liability, because users can get a taste of porn videos on Bing instead of having to go to a smutty Web site — an innovation other search engines have yet to offer.

Newborn Abandoned in Motel Room Littered With Beer Cans
A newborn is being cared for at a West Springfield. Mass hospital after being found abandoned — umbilical cord still attached — in a West Springfield motel room littered with empty beer cans.
Police said the baby was discovered early Saturday by a couple returning to the room next door at the Welcome Inn.
Kimberly Dougherty said that she heard a weak cry coming from the next room. The door was ajar and when she entered, she found the baby girl lying on her back in the middle of a double bed.
Dougherty said she and her husband wrapped the baby in towels until paramedics arrived and took the infant to Baystate Medical Center.
Dougherty guessed that the baby was only an hour or two old.
Investigators are trying to track down the mother.

Teen parents charged in toddler’s meth-related death
A toddler died at Wayne County Hospital late Saturday after drinking caustic chemicals related to the production of methamphetamine.
His 14-year-old mother and 19-year-old father have been charged with murder in the death of the 20-month-old. Both are also charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
The mother’s name was not released by the Kentucky State Police because of her age. Police identified the the father as Bryan Daniels of Monticello.
Four others from Monticello have been charged in relation with the incident. The other adults charged with manufacturing methamphetamine: Danny Anderson II, 26; James Hunt, 24; Alisha Dicken, 21; and Wesley Bell, 24.
The child was pronounced dead in the emergency room at Wayne County Hospital near midnight Saturday. The group apparently was operating out of two homes in the Boston Hill Road area, police say.

Man pulls Cop over for Speeding
A YouTube video of an Accomack County Sheriff's deputy speeding has become the talk of the Eastern Shore. The driver who videotaped the deputy later confronted him.
"I'm coming for you," the driver says on tape. "You can't run baby."
What could be considered a dangerous way to prove a point has become an internet favorite.
"I was in shock that someone was stupid enough to actually do that," said Accomack resident Elizabeth Walraven.
The video, shot earlier this month, has had more than 20,000 hits. The driver films himself chasing down the deputy he believed was speeding.
"I just got you on video blowing by me at 90 miles per hour," the driver said to the deputy. At one point the driver's speedometer hit 90 heading down Highway 13. "He was holding his cell being a commentator," said Accomack County resident BJ Bundick. "That is ridiculous. It was irresponsible on his side."
Accomack County Sheriff Larry Giddens says Deputy Jason Campbell was simply caught on tape making a mistake. He tells WAVY.com the young officer wasn't responding to a call and shouldn't have been speeding. The sheriff says Campbell has been disciplined. He wouldn't tell us Deputy Campbell's punishment.
"You're scared aren't you," the driver yelled at the deputy during the chase. The identity of the 20-year-old cameraman remains a mystery. The 8-minute video shows him honking and getting the deputy to pull over. He then confronts the officer and the deputy lets the driver go.

Family axes wedding plans, so man cuts off penis
A 25-year-old Egyptian man cut off his own penis to spite his family after he was refused permission to marry a girl from a lower class family, police reported Sunday.After unsuccessfully petitioning his father for two years to marry the girl, the man heated up a knife and sliced off his reproductive organ, said a police official.
The young man came from a prominent family in the southern Egyptian province of Qena, one of Egypt's poorest and most conservative areas that is also home to the famed ancient Egyptian ruins of Luxor.
The man was rushed to the hospital but doctors were unable to reattach the severed member, the official added citing the police report filed after the incident.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with the press, added that the man was still recovering in the hospital.
Traditionally, marriages in these conservative part of southern Egypt are between similar social classes and often within the same extended families -- and are rarely for love.

Drug Makers Make Meth Out of their Own Piss
Meth addicts don't throw away their piss -- they extract the meth from their very own urine and resell it.
It's been labeled a living death. It's an addiction that causes violent mood swings, internal bleeding and brittle bones.
It is methamphetamine, often called meth.
Meth comes in a variety of forms.
Pills, capsules, powder or crystal-like chunks.
Meth can be inhaled, ingested, smoked, even snorted.
Users will also recycle, and not for the good of the environment.
As laws change to make life more difficult for dealers and junkies, so too are the methods being used to get the man-made drug.
If you want to know how far a methamphetamine addict will go to get high, just ask Tiffanie Bassett.
"I went to any lengths to get it, I can say there wasn't anything I didn't do for it," said Bassett.
Every day for six years, she made her meth addiction her life.
At one point, she even stayed in the same room for nine months.
"I would pee in a cup and I would throw it out the window," said Bassett.
David Chandler, with the Marshall County Drug Task Force, tells WAFF 48 News that the stuff Tiffanie would throw out is another way some meth users are getting high.
"The guys that are cooking basically extract the methamphetamine from the urine out, and they turn around and sell it to the users again," said Chandler.
Chandler heads up the drug task force.
He worked his first urine meth lab in 2005.
"Just gallon pickle jars full of urine!"
From pickle jars, to two-liters, even kiddie pools.
"It's sick that people would use methamphetamine that's been extracted out of urine," said Chandler.
A sick sight but not surprising to Chandler or anyone who's been involved in the realm of meth, including Tiffanie Bassett.
"There were times that I didn't use the bathroom for two or three days, and when I did it was really yellow and real thick, and that was just the meth with the urine coming out."
"So yeah, I can see," added Bassett.
Chandler said the only way a junkie's body rids itself of the drug is through your bowels, blood, or the body.
"If we take them to the county jail, other meth addicts in the jail will actually come up and pick the scabs off and eat the meth off them. They can actually get a buzz from eating off someone else's body," said Chandler.
Chandler said he's never talked to an addict who cares.
"They're worried about methamphetamine, they're not worried about their lives, about their jobs, about their kids, it's just sad," added Chandler.
Bassett didn't care either.
"I went to jail seven times, and every time I got out I wanted more."
"I looked about 70, I had wrinkles, gray hair, the meth also rotted out all my teeth. Today I have dentures because of it," Bassett said.
But today, Bassett is looking to make amends with herself, her family, and her faith.
"I was probably one of the worst addicts there is, and by the grace of God I'm alive today," added Bassett.
Tiffanie's son Jimmy is three and a half months old.
She also has a 21 year old son who is back in her life now that she's clean.
Bassett also works with the Partnership for a Drug Free Dekalb to support prevention and recovery efforts in the community.

Cripple drug lord caged for 10 years
A quadriplegic whose disability was compared to the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve, has been jailed for up to 10 years for conspiring to manufacture ecstasy.
Paul Baker, 36, of Colyton in Sydney's west, is the first quadriplegic in NSW history to receive a full-time custodial sentence.
District Court Judge Robert Toner's decision last Wednesday will force jail authorities to spend thousands of dollars modifying a cell for Baker - once they find a prison that can accommodate his considerable needs.
The NSW Department of Corrective Services has admitted it is yet to find a permanent jail cell for Baker, who is morbidly obese and needs 98 hours of care per fortnight, which will be provided by an independent care agency.
He cannot eat, drink, go to the toilet or wash by himself and requires a hoist to transfer him to bed from his motorized wheelchair - which he controls with a slight movement in one hand.
In court, Baker's lawyer compared his condition to that of Christopher Reeve, who became a quadriplegic after a horse-riding accident and died in 2004.
"We set up a committee to deal with (Baker) because we knew he would probably be getting a custodial sentence," a Corrective Services spokesman said.
"At the moment he is in Long Bay (jail) hospital in the aged-care and frailty unit. He'll be in there for an assessment and planning period while we look at various jails to figure out which would be most suitable to cope with his level of disability."
The department said it would cost about $200,000 per year to look after Baker, double the cost of an average "secure" prisoner.
Some $4000 was spent on modifying a truck to convey him from court to jail last week. It will be used again when, and if, authorities decide to relocate him.
His cell will have to be fitted with a hoist, special furniture and air-conditioning because Baker can no longer control his own body temperature, authorities said.
A former director of import companies, Baker pleaded guilty in 2007 to one count of conspiring with three other men to manufacture one ton of ecstasy.
The court heard that Baker ordered importation of glassware used in the manufacture of the drug and a pill press found in his home. These were also used in a clandestine lab at Badgerys Creek.
The drug was to be manufactured with other chemicals and combined with 11 200-liter containers of methyl amine, imported from China in 2005.
Police moved in before any drugs were made, the court heard. Judge Toner sentenced Baker to a maximum of 10 years six months, with a non-parole period of three years and six months.
Baker became a quadriplegic in 1995, after a car accident.

Squirrel at cemetery wraps nest in Old Glory
A brazen squirrel has been grabbing small American flags placed in a Port Huron, Mich., cemetery and carrying them up to its nest, which now looks as if it's bedecked in bunting.
Every Memorial Day, volunteers place the flags next to the graves of nearly 1,000 veterans buried at Mount Hope Cemetery about 55 miles northeast of Detroit. The flags were undisturbed during a Mass held Monday.
The Times Herald newspaper reports that workers at the cemetery on Tuesday noticed several flags had been torn off their wooden staffs, which were still in the ground.
The mystery was solved in front of superintendent Ron Ceglarek's eyes. He watched a squirrel detach a flag stapled to a staff and carry it up a tree to the nest.

Idaho families survive postal cut
Twenty families in a roadless wilderness in Idaho say they've convinced the U.S. Postal Service to keep bringing their mail via airplane.
Service to the scattered residents on the Salmon River costs about 10 times the average cost of delivery -- $46,000 a year for plane service as the Postal Service faces a $6.5 billion budget deficit, The New York Times reported Saturday.
The families reside in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness -- the Postal Service's sole remaining air route into a wilderness in the continental United States.
Postal officials said they considered alternatives, including surface routes, but none would have provided acceptable service to the families, who have depended on pilot Ray Arnold, 72, and his Cessna 185 to bring them their mail, food and other supplies for the last 34 years.
"There's a tremendous community among the people in this canyon," said ranch owner Doug Tims, 62, calling the mail plane "the thread that ties it all together."

It is such a sad story if it is true.
An online ad out of Carollwood pictures a little girl for sale.
On the popular classifieds website, Craigslist.com. Annabelle, as she's named in the ad is an 18-month-old baby girl up for sale.
Bay area resident Natalya Watson first found the ad that was posted Friday night while she was shopping for baby toys for her own little ones.
"I came across an ad that said, "Brand new or hardly used," so I clicked on that and saw some lady trying to sell her child," said Watson.
The ad is written by a "single mom", it says, who's "barely 18-years-old." She writes how her career is "just kicking off", so she's looking for a family who can devote time to her daughter. She writes, she will even "sign a bill of sell."
"Why would you sell your daughter, I just can't imagine," said Watson. After the initial shock, Watson got worried about the child.
So, she sent an email to the site's legal services folks. They quickly replied saying they would review the posting and work with law enforcement.
"I think the Sheriff's and DCF needs to see if this is a good home for the child - to see if it was true," said Watson.
Watson hopes the ad is not real but as a mother, she is not willing to take the chance.
"God forbid, something happened to that little girl, I wouldn't want that on my shoulders knowing it's something I could have prevented."
Since Watson contacted the website, the ad has been taken down.

K-9 Officer loses job due to recession
Aberdeen, Washington - The Aberdeen Police Department has laid off its K-9 dog Nitro due to budget cuts. But public outcry and support could land the pooch back on the force.
Officer Steve Timmons is raising money to bring his partner back after the German Shepherd was cut from the force earlier this month. Police Chief Bob Torgerson says laying Nitro off saves the department $12,000 a year. That's mostly in overtime the city pays Timmons to care for the dog during off hours. Timmons says he wants to work with the city and union to eliminate the overtime. He also wants to donate his time but says federal rules and labor laws won't allow it. Timmons is also seeking donations to cover Nitro's food if he returns to work. Six-year-old Nitro has helped nab between 35 and 40 suspects since he joined the force in 2005.
The dog has been with Timmons since he was laid off.

Man driving with toddler hanging out car window arrested
A 43-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after sheriff’s deputies stopped him when they saw a toddler partially hanging out of his car window.
Hobe Sound resident John W. Williams told Martin County Sheriff’s deputies he had just put out a marijuana cigarette when he was stopped along Bridge Road on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities said they searched his vehicle and found a baggie of pot and a manila envelope with cocaine inside.
Williams, 43, was arrested on misdemeanor marijuana possession and felony cocaine possession charges. His 2-year-old grandson was released to his mother.
Deputies issued Williams a traffic citation for failing to restrain the boy while driving.

Guy owes over $110,000 in child support. And his profession is....
Mauro A. Martissa, 45, owes more than $110,000 in child support, according to the U.S.Department of Justice.
He was found guilty of willfully failing to pay child support by a federal jury and faces up to two years in jail.
This Pasco County dad has "failed to make a single voluntary payment."
Guess his training didn't take.
Martissa is director of a debt-consulting business.

Former School Board candidate arrested on child porn charges
A former local priest and past member of the county’s Children Service Advisory Committee was arrested Thursday on charges of possessing child pornography.
Vero Beach police arrested Gerard J. Lamothe, 60, of the 1800 block of 44th Avenue, Vero Beach, after a three-month-long investigation.
According to a Vero Beach Police release, investigators got a tip in February a computer monitor at the Pastoral Counseling Center, 3100 Airport West Drive, Vero Beach, displayed child pornography. Lamothe founded and runs the Pastoral Counseling Center, which is a marriage and family counseling center.
Though the business was closed at that time, the monitor was visible through the window, the release stated.
A Vero Beach officer went to the office later that day and saw a monitor from the front window showing a child of about 4-to-5 years old engaged in a sexual act, according to the release. The next day, Lamothe — now married and a father of 11 — denied having previous knowledge of the image on his computer, according to the release.

Timmons is also seeking donations to cover Nitro's food if he returns to work. Six-year-old Nitro has helped nab between 35 and 40 suspects since he joined the force in 2005.
The dog has been with Timmons since he was laid off.

Man driving with toddler hanging out car window arrested
A 43-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after sheriff’s deputies stopped him when they saw a toddler partially hanging out of his car window.
Hobe Sound resident John W. Williams told Martin County Sheriff’s deputies he had just put out a marijuana cigarette when he was stopped along Bridge Road on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities said they searched his vehicle and found a baggie of pot and a manila envelope with cocaine inside.
Williams, 43, was arrested on misdemeanor marijuana possession and felony cocaine possession charges. His 2-year-old grandson was released to his mother.
Deputies issued Williams a traffic citation for failing to restrain the boy while driving.

Guy owes over $110,000 in child support. And his profession is....
Mauro A. Martissa, 45, owes more than $110,000 in child support, according to the U.S.Department of Justice.
He was found guilty of willfully failing to pay child support by a federal jury and faces up to two years in jail.
This Pasco County dad has "failed to make a single voluntary payment."
Guess his training didn't take.
Martissa is director of a debt-consulting business.

Former School Board candidate arrested on child porn charges
A former local priest and past member of the county’s Children Service Advisory Committee was arrested Thursday on charges of possessing child pornography.
Vero Beach police arrested Gerard J. Lamothe, 60, of the 1800 block of 44th Avenue, Vero Beach, after a three-month-long investigation.
According to a Vero Beach Police release, investigators got a tip in February a computer monitor at the Pastoral Counseling Center, 3100 Airport West Drive, Vero Beach, displayed child pornography. Lamothe founded and runs the Pastoral Counseling Center, which is a marriage and family counseling center.
Though the business was closed at that time, the monitor was visible through the window, the release stated.
A Vero Beach officer went to the office later that day and saw a monitor from the front window showing a child of about 4-to-5 years old engaged in a sexual act, according to the release. The next day, Lamothe — now married and a father of 11 — denied having previous knowledge of the image on his computer, according to the release.

Dog's Tongue Gets Caught In Paper Shredder
Last week, an 8-year-old mixed-breed named Diamond was rushed to a veterinary clinic in Miami with an alarming injury."She had licked a paper shredder in the house that was set on automatic," said Dr. Marc Wosar of the Miami Veterinary Specialists.
The shredder grabbed onto Diamond's tongue and pulled it deeper into the sharp blades.
"I think it's a big potential risk in the house," Dr. Juan Sardinas said.
Fortunately, Diamond's owners were home and responded quickly.
They disconnected the head of the shredder and carried it, with the dog's tongue still stuck inside, to Miami Veterinary Specialists.
"We anesthetized her first, then reversed the shredder off the tongue and assessed the damage," said Wosar. "There were a lot of lacerations to the tongue as well as a lot of bite wounds. In her panic, she'd also bitten her tongue."
It took more than a 100 stitches to repair Diamond's tongue. A portion that was too severely damaged had to be removed, but doctors expect her to make a full recovery.
"She just won't have a perfectly round tongue. She'll have a little nick in it," said Wosar.
Veterinarians recommend confining or crating animals when you're not home to keep them away from anything that might cause harm.
